I'm having one of those moments where you spend half an hour looking for you remote, only to realise that it has been in front of you the whole time. So please bear with me.

Rotate lines
Short definition, allows you and a teammate to make a five foot step and switch positions, without drawing an attack of opportunity.

Question
Couldn't you do this before? It's only a five foot step. Is it something they covered in 3.5 (I run 3.0, usually, well sorta it's kind of a combination) If someone could clarify this for me I would appreciate it. I must be glancing over something important.

Thanks

What? I'm sorry, I don't even know what you mean by this, what relevance it has to Dark Sun, and even what it is.

Xlor, Xlor, Xlor; clearly, they're talking about rotate lines. You know? ROTATE LINES?! Duh.

It's a feat in the Athas.org released Dark Sun campaign. You can find it on pg. 31, last entry on the left column and continues onto the right column.

Maybe I'm the only one who read the thing.

Rotate Lines is used to swap positions with another ally. Its primary use is essentially moving injured or unconscious allies to safety without provoking an attack of opportunity, on your turn. An ally can make a full attack and still swap positions, since it is you who make the switch on your turn.

What I think Tlaloc is asking is couldn't you do this with out the feat? You can take a 5' move without provoking an AoO normally.

And move thru a friendly occupied square with no issue.

Thanks for the response Jon

However, my question remains. Do you really need a feat to do this? If it is only a 5 foot step, why would you need a feat?

Should I assume that the description needs to be reworded?. Perhaps "you assist an injured ally, moving him behind you, without incuring an attack of opportunity."

edit: make that ...assist an unconcious ally...

Actually after reading it again it allows the player with the feat to swap places with an ally. Meaning that both players move 5' but its only the person with the feat using an action to do so. The other person is still free to act as if they didn't make the 5' move themselves.

Thank you very much Sysane. Your explanation make much more sense to me.
I guess Jon also answered it, but I needed it explained a third time.

So for those that contributed thank you for you assistance. Like I said, I just couldn't see a reason to make it a feat.

Sorry, but I think the whole feat-thing is kind of goofy. So do my players (not that they don't abuse the system whole-heartedly, though).

Gotta move first.

Then I've gotta find a job, a place to live, and unpack all my stuff. THEN the drawings will commence again.
