Thought this might be a good topic to start now that I have the 2 new incredible books by SP (via mail today, yea!). I'm really fired up, so let's talk about DL art new and old.

Who drew the picture of Kit in WOTL? Its awesome. Best new picture in any SP product (or D&D product for that matter). What else has he drawn (anywhere). The name is illegible in my copy, all I can make out is the letter "D".

Also, the pics of Laurana, Caramon, Flint are all done by the same artist. I think its Elmore, but the coloring on these pictures are throwing me off. These are great too.

There's a lot of other great pics in these books, but these are the ones that standout, to me at least.

The Kitiara pic, along with quite a few others, is by superlative artist Chris Dien. The Heroes of the Lance picture are color updates of older Elmore ink pieces. I'm glad you like the art!

Who are some of the artists that are featured in the War of the Lance and the Towers of High Sorcery sourcebooks?

Some of the pics are cover art from old products, like the original Chronicles covers and module covers. I'll leave the new stuff to the people in the know for both books.

I am glad to know that Soverign Press is using some of the old classic art again. Is there any chance that they might produce a new art of Dragonlance product?

By the way, speaking of Dragonlance art, I was just browsing on the WOTC webpage with the Dragonlance art and there is some art in there that was not included in the DLCS, like the monument of the Silver Dragon. Any chance that it wil be seen later in another product?

We need some more good non-anime/janpination kender and gully dwarves! I liked the pic of Jasper Fireforge in the Age of Mortals the person that drew that one seems pretty good to me.

Personally, I dont like the anime style of art. The DLCS has a bit too much of this style for my tastes, that is only me. I like more of the traditional art that DL has had for the past 20 years!

What are you talking about? There is absolutely no anime in the DLCS.

Believe me, I'd know...'cause I'd've thrown a hissy fit. LOL!

Some of it does have a Dragonball Z flavor to it. As long as I don't see eyes as big as grapefruits I think I can handle it.

Really? You think so?

Hmm...granted my exposure to anime is limited...typically, I consider it anime when the head is shaped like an acorn. Any more detail than that, and I'd call it a different style.

Dragonball, InuYasha, Lodoss, Witch Hunter Robin, FLCL...and many others...it seems like the distinctive feature in most anime I've seen is the complete lack of detail in the faces...they always use the eyes. Some of it I like story wise, so I can get past the artistic style...but most of it just bugs me.

Well as a tottal hater of 99.9% of Anime ever created, as Talinthas and TRRW can tell you, I honestly love all the art in the DragonLance books. Elmore was good back in the 80's cause it was the 80's, and all that needs to stay there, the pic of Kit on the front of WotL is by fair the worst picture of her EVER! I'm assuming the Dragon is supposed to be Skie, in anycase I don't like the way it looks too well either, and that Highloard, OMG did he walk out of Giant Land from Super Mario 3? not scarey at all. But to go opposite that Tanis Tas and Laurana all look amazing. This book has the best pics of Lauran ever who is my fav character through out Dragon Lance, though Palin had her beat till WoS.

As for the Anime type, I do see slight Anime looks especially in Bestiary, but most of it looks good, like whom ever it was said earlier as long as I don't see the Grapefruit shaped eyes and millimeter long mouth its going to be ok. You wanna see anime, go look at Ebberon. I saw a ton in one book I flipped through.

Kit's the Highlord. You're talking about Tika, and that's a damn fine picture of Tika, young man. Eat your words!

It's a montage painting, the scale's supposed to be all over the place. One of the finest DL paintings ever made in my opinion, but then I'm a DL grognard.

Cheers,

Well see i though that was Tika but I kept getting told it was Kit, plus she doesn't have red hair and Tika does. Plus where is the frying pan?The hair is light brown, OOOOO yes I can see how that Dragon Highlord is Kit now.... soooo easily But i think it is awesome cept for the Highloard, I mean I know its supposed to be bigger, just looks rediculously oversized, But as that being Tika goes, hells yes its a good picture of her, cept the hair not being red. Thanks for clearing part of it up though.

I like that painting of Tika, it makes her look young and gives you the impression that she doenst really know what she is doing but she is ready to try. If you contrast it to her in the original cover of Dragons of Spring Dawing you can see the development that has occurred in the life of Tika Waylon. It would be nice to see a painting of her using her famous frying pan, cast iron, got to be! I am using her as an NPC in a WOL campaign and I took away the shortsword that they had given her and I swapped it for a magical frying pan! GO TIKA!

My wife (Pendal Lockenkey) asked my who all those people on the cover were and I started pointing them out and naming them. When I got to Tika she said, " Didn't she had red, really curly hair, like springs and a FRYING PAN?" I laughed so hard I nearly fell out of bed! Despite the lack of red spring-like hair and a frying pan I think the cover and interior art is excellent.

Speaking of original Elmore art.. I wonder how many of you remember the "original" cover to Dragons of Winter Night. The one where the Blue Dragon Highlord has "her" mask on. It really ticked me off when they reprinted it and had Kitiara without the mask on . I mean part of the mystery was just what interest this Highlord had with the companions. But they just give it totally away with that second cover. Oh well, just one of the very few complaints I have about DL Art.

No I never saw that, but I read The Annotated Chronicals, and when i got it, the cover wasn't on so I didn't have an idea what any of them looked like, so i was shocked amazed and a little angry when i learned Kit was a Highlord. I thought it a killer twist, and my friends never mentioned she was a highlord so it tottally threw me off, and made me HATE Tanis for going with her and spending time with her.. I kept thinking TANIS YOU BLOODY WANKER YOU HAVE A HOT ELF WHO WILL LOOK 18 FOR THE NEXT 100 yrs WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!!! Not to mention your with a *****! I just wanted to jump into the book and kick the crap out of him myself, I kept wishing Raist would lightining bolt him. Thats why i like Summer Flame Tanis more, well cept the whole dieing thing i was like great hes getting cool now... STABBED! DAMN IT! Why does that always happen to the characters I start to like? Palin, Tanis, luckly Laurana never changed, but still died *sigh* Oh well, Anyways the Art rocks I still hate the Highlord someone mentioned it on another thread and I figured out why I don't like it, its cause it looks like there is no neck!

I am sorry, I must have gotten confused. I thought that you guys were talking about the cover of DL5 which is also the cover, at least the one that has been released for the War of the Lance book, and the Dragonhigh Lord there.

The original cover to Dragons of Winter Night is a good one though and the Stawiki cover is wonderful as well. There have been like 4 or 5 covers though hasnt there?

Now that you mention it I think its acctually in the Annotated Chronicals book..... let me go chek........ (a few mintues pass)..... Nope wasn't in there but i think i saw it in a Art of Dragonlance book i flipped trough at Media Play once, cause it looks familiar at the very least I saw it at Elmore's stand at GenCon. I think she looks fine in this one. I've just always thought in "Dragonlance" she looked a little...uh...compressed.

It doesnt look like Dragon High Lords can turn their necks around, kind of like the original Batman costume. I wonder if that creates a problem fighting from the back of a dragon?
