I told you I would give you a preview of what I am slowing doing:

The Pterrans of the Hinterlands

I have several things done already, but not enouph to worth showing right now. Although, I have this first draft to show you, because I want to be sure I wont be missing anything about ideas, YOU, DSers could add to this work.

This picture (diagram) represents the hierarchy of this pterran society. There is the Triumvirate on the top of it (3 pterrans, one warrior, one psion and one druid). A small council with few advisors from the 3 majors paths and the minors paths (electec among their members).

IMAGE(http://www.siltskimmer.org/dessins/pterran_sosch.jpg)

Of course, you may not know what's most of the names there (Shattering Order, Earth Mother Champion, etc.). Although, I would like you to wonder of what they all might be and add ideas you always wanted to tell about what you think about the pterrans.

Example: I need ideas and names for somes pterran trading houses, new organisations (standard, special or hidden one), locations, small villages names, importants pterrans members (names or else), flavor (Mach !!!).

Mind: Spyminder, Psychic Messenger, Visionary
Warrior: Insect Hunter, Slimahacc Rider, Pterrax Rider
Druid: Ground Keeper, Traditionalist, Earth Mother Champion
Forsaken: Renegade

What names are called the assembly of : Traditionalist, etc…

If you have ideas, make yourself know!!!

After that, it's almost finish, I have the Pterran's timeline!

It looks great so far Grummore. Can you rephrase the question above? I am not sure if I understand exactly what you want.

Huh?

Well, I think I'm maple sugar flavored, maybe with just a hint of cinnamon.

Oh, wait. That's not what you meant, eh? I'll see what I can come up with, if anything. Not that I don't like the pterrans, but I've never really done much with them and so haven't given them any thought as far as depth and culture.

I am just looking to see if anyone would have any ideas for a group of peoples. Example: A group of druids protecting several area of the hinterlands would be called the "Grove Assembly". Having ideas for the others or for new groups like that is always nice and useful when creating a document.

Destroyers of Darkness - group of Elemental clerics who job it is to watch for defilers enterting the Pterran homelands

Seekers of The Lost Children - group of (rangers???) dedicated to finding the 'lost' Pterran tribes.... (and other reptiloids)

Waaay overused name ! Too generic.

Seekers of The Lost Children - group of (rangers???) dedicated to finding the 'lost' Pterran tribes.... (and other reptiloids)

Now that is a good idea. It give feeling that it's tied to "Mother Earth".

Give me more! Come on, are you truly telling me that you dont use much the Pterrans in your adventures?

Clutch of the Eggborn - A collection of tale-tellers, sages and druids who see Athas as the egg of the Earth Mother and they her children hatched from within. They preserve legends of a time when the egg was cracked by great conflagrations, scorched and ruined. The Eggborn call this time the Doom of the Sih-al-Bhat, named for a dread goddess who warred with the Earth Mother for possession of her egg. Now they seek to gather together the lore and legendry of that epoch, in the hope of learning what may be done to heal the wounds inflicted upon the Earth Mother and her offspring since the time of the Doom.
Some of the Clutch of the Eggborn seek to forge alliances with the other oviparous races of Athas - the aarakocra, the ssurran and the kreen - seeing similarities in their ancient tales with the pterran legends of the Doom of the Sih-al-Bhat. They have taken the Great Earthquake as a sign that the time is upon them to bring the wisdom of the Clutch of the Eggborn to all who would hear it, and even now make their way into the Tablelands, seeking like-minded souls.

Thanks - much appreciated. A wee nugget from my DS game. One of my players had based his character tree around two aarakocrans, a pterran and a kreen with some very odd ideas about eggs... :D

Mad. I played a really cool Draconian character stranded on Athas, became a very peaceful, spiritual being, living with a roaming band of refugee Pterrans fleeing from undead minions south of the deadlands - died protecting the tibe from a Necromancer. Good game. Pterrans and Ssaurans are my favorite races on Athas to play - really get a chance to show a spiritual side of the character.

Clutch of the Iron Claw;

Semi-Renegade group of Pterrans, (including Magma clerics), who advocate either adopting more advanced technology (ie Iron, hence the name) or moving into cities wholesale. It's more radical members are generally shunned by Pterran society, but sometimes more 'normal' members are accepted for thier oddities.

Clutch of Shadows -

This secretive clutch watches from both the fringes of Pterran society and from within. Made up of LG, LN, NG, N mind-benders, druids and the occasional cleric, these Pterrans watch the homeland... but what for, they won't say.....

Thanks for giving your though Kam and Jaanos. Unfortunatly, this lead me to a question:

Does anybody bother about the Pterrans? :D

- Is it that you are like Mach?
- That not much peoples bothered about these peoples from the Hinterlands?
- Did you know that if the Thor-Kreen empire start scouting the lands by the Great Rift that the first to notice them will be the pterrans?
- Or maybe you started to like more the race added in the dragons mag. to the planet athas and you left aside the pterrans?
- Did you ever made an adventure pass the ringing mountains?
- Much much questions...

What's your though on this? Thanks!

Keep it up mate, Pterrans rock! Having said that though, they aren't one of the most popular PC races in groups i DM... dunno why, maybe it's the whole earth-mother-druid-hippie thing?

Personally, I just don't see much of an attraction in reptilian humanoids. They just don't inspire my imagination, not sure why.

Personally, I just don't see much of an attraction in reptilian humanoids. They just don't inspire my imagination, not sure why.

Part of it is a 65 million years old genetic memory from our furry little common mammalian ancestor. You see, the mammals could not take over from the dinosaurs simply because they were more fit, they had to create this huge propaganda campaign against them. With slogans like "I eat charred dino for breakfast", and "The Law of Probabilities will ensure that on occasion a dead pea brained dino will be smarter than a live one".
So its no wonder we feel mammalian proudness, its all part of the propaganda machine.
