With the upcoming release of 4th edition, would you consider using some of its "tools" in a OD&D game? I mean, I don't even know if these "tools" will allow much freedom, but it seems to me that "playing online", "map making" and "dice rolling" can be easily adapted to an old school edition. If this is correct, would you use them? Or do you think that's sacrilege? :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Handsome Stranger Date : 10-04-07 12:39 PM Thread Title : Re: An editions half-breed? Not so much sacrilege as a duplication of effort. Computerized dice rollers pre-date second edition, campaign cartographers and playing online go back at least that far. Heck, I'm not sure computerized dice rolling doesn't pre-date D&D and if I know my nerds the first online game was probably played about 1974. Why try to separate the useful stuff from a game which is so unappealing? Just go get the stuff you want which has already been around for years and years. Good luck, -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Mojo_Rat Date : 10-04-07 04:11 PM Thread Title : Re: An editions half-breed? Thre are already Systems to do this if you /really/ wanted to play a game online rahter than at a table. Open RPG i think is the name of one of the programs I believe. I am sure there are others as well. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Varl Date : 10-05-07 02:58 PM Thread Title : Re: An editions half-breed? I don't play online, mapmaking is done either via CC3 or Dundjinni, and dice rolling is done, well, by hand! ;) Even if they were to make their DI with edition compatibility built in (shyeah, right!), I'd still probably not use it, though I would probably check out the mapper, just to see how it works, since mapping isn't edition-dependent. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:22 AM.
