Hi. I've been away for a while, but I'm back, now that the homeworks died down. I've just started my DS book collection and have found something that is confusing me. In DK, it seems to say that Athas has an open cosmology. Am I just reading this wrong, or was there a cosmilogical switch sometime in the past?

I also have the 'Freedom' adventure and I'm buisy reading it and preparing to run it with my group. In the pack, I got several tarrot-like cards. I was wonering what these where for, or if they where even part of any DS product.

P.S. does anyone have any tips on playing 'Freedom'?

Clip the aarakocra's wings to prevent them from escaping.

Yes indeed.

Not sure what the "tarot cards" are. I guess that you're not referring to the two spiral-bound flipbooks. Maybe they are Spellfire cards, TSR art cards or something?

The tarrot-like cards where probably just somethign left in the box from a long time ago. they don't seem th be very DS, as thay are covered in celtic-knot patterns. I may find a use for them someday…

Note to self; clip their wings.

any info on the chosmology stuff?

I've gotten the same impression from reading the older material. It seems like Athas was not originally envisioned as being closed off from the rest of the planes. It seems to have been introduced at a later date.

Like you, I've recently completed my DS library and am rereading a lot of the material. I'm keeping an eye out for the point at which the "closing off" becomes evident. (I think the adventure "Black Spine" should have the most information on this).

Changeling cantrip?

They have names like 'fool','idiot', 'tallon', and 'fates'. some of thes appear to be traditional tarrot cards, while others, such as 'void' are totally alien to me.

Does anyone know exactly when and why the cosmology changed?

Mephboy has it - these are probably the Deck of Many Things insert from Dragon Magazine #148. Good catch - those are much sought-after :D

Surely, one of The People has a scanner.

edit: Darn, I have the Dragon mag CD archive (250 first mags) but they didn't incorporated the cards proper. To Bad: would have like to be able to read them and judge for myself if they were worthy.

Hmm, if it is, it seems to be missing a fiew of the cards, from my memory at least. I'll have to check how many match up, but I don't have any of it on me at the moment. I'll get arround to scanning some in ASAP, which probably won't be untill early next week, as that's when I'll have the cards and scanner.

I'mm haveing trouble trying to invisin an Athas where the cosmology is truly open. It just dosen't work for me. I geuss I'm glad that they did the cangeover with the DS chosmolgy. But it would be good to know why&and when. It makes you think… what would Athas be like today (and in the future) if the cosmollogy hat not changed…

Yipdedoo! it is a compleat deck of many things, and it's in verry good condition . I feel smug. thankyou for heling figure that one out. Now... how to use it in Athas... Bingo! darogeth(sp) tood one from another plane and is forcing slaves to draw the cards, and trying to find out if it's possible to predict what card will be next.

Oh, and the 'Dojin' card could send people to the hollow.
