My friends and I are starting a new campaign to take place a few years prior to the War of the Lance. I wanted the challenge of playing a Knight of Solamnia. I rolled very well. Here are my scores:

17
16
15
14
14
8

I will most likely fall into the role of party leader and I don't usually take the typical "dump it in Charisma" route. How do you all suggest I arrange my scores? Thanks in advance.

Put it in Dexterity, and wear heavy armour.

eg

S 17
D 8
C 16
i 14
w 14
ch 15

Or you could put it in Wisdom, just as long as you only stay a Knight of the Crown. Intelligence would also work, as long as you don't mind having low skill points and playing a dumb character.

Str 17
Dex 14
Con 15
Int 8
Wis 16
Cha 14

This route gives you a high Str score (the better to kick butt with), plus a high Wis score (the better to cast divine spells with). Your Cha is still fairly good, and Dex and Con are on par with that as well. Only your Int would suffer, which would affect skill points. Out of all the ability scores, that may be the one you use the least.

Just a thought.

Unfortunately the Knights of Solamnia requires diverse skill selection. And if you start out as a fighter you'll have some cross class skills that need to be filled. I say put it in Dex.

Right. As an armored character, Dexterity is your least important ability score. Remember to go with a heavy shield, as well, and you won't even notice.

I agree with a low dexterity.
Let shot arrows someone else...
Go with long sword and shield, and it will be a very good charachter!

Right...that's what I would have said too. But I forgot, there are a lot of pre-requisite skills for KoS that might be kind of hard to get with an Int that low.

I'd hate giving a fighter that high of an Int and that low of a Dex...but I think that is your only real choice if you want to be a KoS. Luckily...ranged weapons are not honorable weapons, so you don't have to worry about using them anyway. ;)

Have the guy be a "have at you!" Paladin who rushes into everything and says all the dumbest things imaginable. Then raise his wisdom at the first chance you can get to 9 points. You won't be rolling over in it but a war machine with only a few spells isn't necessarily a bad thing
