I don't know how many of you use E-Tools but I just saw the Dragonlance Campaign book up on Code Monkey's website as a pre-order for E-Tools. The Draconomicon is also there. That is very, very cool. I can hardly wait for it for the Dragonlance data set.

We are working with the CodeMonkey gang to have data sets based on the major Sovereign Press Dragonlance releases as well. Hopefully it will not be too long before you can guys can use these electronic tools to enhance your home games.

Hi

Having seen the numerous bad reviews of eTools when it was first released, I did not buy this product. However, if they are going to release Dragonlance add-ons it has peaked my interest again, especially as I understand that Code Monkey have improved things somewhat.

I'd be interested to hear how good things are now, and what problems still remain. I do not need it to be too complex - I don't need to design monsters, PrCs, etc., I just need it to be able to create basic character sheets for my PCs and NPCs that I can keep up to date easily as they level up. I need it to be simple and I need it to be correct mathematically.

How does it look in these terms?

Thanks in advance

I use e-tools for all my PC's, it works great - I do all rolls myself (for some reason I just like dice better than computer generated rolls), and e-tools allows you to enter all your own die rolls for HP's, abilities, etc. Bets bit is the "Equiping" section where you select your weapons & armour etc - it tells you your AC, your flatfooted AC, your touch AC, what penalties you get at different ranges for your bows, it's great. It;s also great to have a SAVED version of your character at each level - comes in handy for those days your PC gets level drained, you've got a version of the previous level available!

My boyfriend is our DM and he uses it to randomly generate treasure, monsters, and NPC's. We both get a lot of use out of it.

Sounds great. Like SimmonCollins I didn't buy it, because this were alomst as bad as the Character Generator program incleded with the orginal 3.0 PHB. One of the guys in my Monday group uses it and it looks OK, so I was tempted to pick it up. I'll definately put it on my birthday list now that they're including a dragonlance set. It would really help me for random encounters for my DL game.

E-tools is essential DM kit. I recommend it highly.

I have already keyed in a lot of data for DL. I am greatly looking forward to DL data sets.

I keyed in alot of the Dragonlance Spells and Feats, but I found it damn hard to do some of the Prestige Classes.

At the risk of repetition I have to say yes the E-Tools are alot better now. Code Monkey rocks! And SP is "very WISE" to pursue the Monkeys for future data sets. :D

Thanks for the feedback on eTools. Sounds good.

Is the Code Monkey website the only place to get the 3.5 version of eTools? If I bought the original version cheap on eBay (for example) is there an upgrade available to the latest version? Nearly $50 for eTools, the 3.5 update, and the DLCS set is gonna hurt my pocket.

Thanks for advice in advance.

It's not inexpensive software.

Hell - you'll spend nearly $100 on Dundjiini Platinum and add ons.

Pro software development is much more labor and time intensive than RPG development and the $$ involved reflect that.

I've no argument with any of that. Just want to know if I can get it cheaper.
Thanks

If you have the original working version of the e-tools program, you should download all patches for it (which are FREE at the codemonkey website) to bring it up to version 1.5.1. Then you can PURCHASE the 3.5 upgrade for $6.95 (on the codemonkey site it's called (core set revised)

Hope that helps

Now THAT'S the answer to my question.

And Data Sets are very cheap, ranging from 2.50 to 10.00 usually.
