I'm reading the Tower of High Sorcery book now so I might find an answer to this question in the book but I'm press for time and maybe I can get an answer here quicker . Great book by the way, I can't believe Ventyr has 3.5 stats! Very awesome. Anway, I remember reading somewhere a long, long time ago in a Dragonlance book, might have been a novel, that Wizards of High Sorcery can "sense" if a wizard in their presence took and pass the Test. Does this carry over to 3.5 Tower wizards? If it does then that's a great way to detect Renegades.

Not as far as I know. No Highlander buzz in the ear effect when the wizard meets another wizard who's passed the Test.

Cheers,

dude, that would be awesome! and the towers would count as holy ground, so they can't fight there, and instead of decapitation, they use the bloodstone...

As far as I remember no wizard can "sense" if another took the test, if that was the case they wouldnt need specialized corps of renegade hunters.

Besides if they could renegades would last about 2 weeks because a WoHS would spot them.

And if they have a "renegade sense" ala Spiderman, can you imagine the headaches in the Fifth Age when they meet all those sorcerers?

I think you might be thinking of the Master of the Tower of Wayreth.

As a sentinent extension of the tower he can

A) sense if someone has taken the Test
b) take the form and personality of any wizard who has passed the test in the history of Ansalon.

As a side note, I don't have the ToHS book yet, but does the natural form of the Master still look like a black guy with a reverse mohawk?

I don't think so. I never liked that image. In Wizard's Conclave I don't recall the Master taking that shape, and he did don several aspects. His preference was Par-Salian.

I really don't remember where or when I read this "sense" ability, but I know it was before the Fifth Age. Anyway thanks for the help guys.

I sort of recall that myself, although I'm not certain from where. Perhaps that could be made into a new order secret, or become part of a new PrC. *shrugs*

While it does have a Highlander-like quality to it, I think the idea is also akin to the Jedi from Star Wars.

Anway, I remember reading somewhere a long, long time ago in a Dragonlance book, might have been a novel, that Wizards of High Sorcery can "sense" if a wizard in their presence took and pass the Test.

The reference comes from the short story "The Test of the Twins", so we're talking really ancient DL material. :-) It says therein that taking the Test gives a wizard an aura of power that is recognized by all other wizards, and makes him as a 'true' mage, not a dabbler.
However, that same story--indeed, the very same paragraph--states that a mage can practice magic just as well without the Test. As can be seen from the implications of this and other material, the concepts of the Test and the Orders of High Sorcery have evolved considerably in the years since that writing.

Thank you, Mathew! I began to question my memory on the matter. It might be ancient Dragonlance, but Test of the Twins was written by Weis, some would argue that's canon . But I doubt it carry over to 3.5.

That reminds me, thank you for posting the bladesinger article, Dragonhelm. The bladesingers have always reminded me of the Jedi to some level. I just avoided going with that angle, not appropiate I think for D&D or Dragonlance.

Not a problem, my man. It's accidentally showing up under my name in the latest addition column (long story), but the credit's all yours when you get to the article.

Thanks for submitting, and feel free to send any additional submissions in the future.

and instead of decapitation, they use the bloodstone...

Or,. just stick with decapitation.

"How come there are so many wizards running around? Aren't you guys supposed to kill each other?"

"You ever try to decapitate someone with a bloody _staff_? Huh? Let me demonstrate." *whak whack whack*

"Ow! Hey, quit it! That hurts!"

On second thought, never mind.
