Funny thing about Mistress Jenna...

Flipping through Towers of High Sorcery (which I just stole--err, bought), I'm a little curious about the picture of her on page 80.
Is that picture supposed to be recent, how she looks as of the events in Wizard's Conclave?
If it is, I'm surprised. I got the distinct mental image while reading WC that Jenna's hair had gone gray, she had wrinkles crisscrossing her face, her figure was starting to plumpen, and she was no longer as mobile as she used to be. Was I wrong? Because the pic of her in ToHS has her looking beautiful, young, and in fine shape (if she still looked like that, why didn't Dalamar try to bed her instead of risking arrest with a minor?). Strange how I could so misread something or have a different image going. Jenna's also missing her hit point total.
Another thing, I was disappointed that Fistandantilus only had 22 spellcasting levels and no epic feats. With those numbers, Highmage Vincil could have stood a good chance of defeating him. But then I brightened. Because the stats in ToHS don't show him at his full power! I figured this from the fact that he's missing the lich/demilich template he should have, so obviously, he would have picked up some more levels along the way to becoming a demilich. The stats in ToHS, IMO, better reflect where Fisty was at during the Kingpriest Trilogy.
Also, why doesn't ToHS mention Corynn by name? They just call her "the enigmatic young wizard". WC was out by the time ToHS came around, otherwise Jenna wouldn't have had the Master of the Tower template applied to her.
Anyway, those are my thoughts from a brief perusing.

I like that picture of Jenna and how they made a PrC for her. It would have been nice to see her dad, and Ladonna and Par-Salian though.

At the time the book was written, there were some things that were known and some that weren't about the events of "Wizard's Conclave."

As for Jenna's illustration - it's my favorite from the book, and I think it's probably Jenna in her heyday. Alternately, now that she's recovered from the events of "Wizard's Conclave" she's had a spare moment to fix herself up a little, magically-speaking.

Her hit point total was mysteriously deleted during editing. It should be 50. That might show up in errata.

Cheers,
Cam

Jenna's not that old, she's only about five years older than Palin.

And both Wizard's Conclave and Dragons of a Fallen Sun go to great lengths to say that's she's still an attractive woman.

Well...that makes her damn near 70, doens't it? That's gettin' up there...

Jenna was born 358 AC, same year as Tanin Majere.

That would make her sixty-five during the events of Wizard's Conclave.

See...that's "damn near 70." (at least in my book)

One thing I got from Wizards' Conclave was that the power of magic gave sort of an inner life to some people. Willim the Black was nothing without his magic, yet with it, he was fearsome indeed.

In Jenna's case, I'm certain it gave her a certain "liveliness", for lack of better terms, which gives her a certain brightness and energy.

Either that, or she had Botox injections.

woah woah. back up the matrimony pony there. so how old was she when her and Dalimar were...um...being "special freinds"?

I never crunched the numbers (because *I'm* lazy :D ) but I figured her to be roughly 30 during the chaos war plus the 40 years approx... wait. nevermind... *grumbles* stupid poopey heads....lordin' math over me *grumble* :invasion:

Maybe Jenna is the Ansalonian version of Brigette Nielson?

Yes, and I'd say that Fist is a lot like Dick Clark. How else has ol' american bandstand stayed the same age for so long? I smell a conspiracy......

She looks older to me, though she does look free of wrinkles. I remember the novel "Night of the Eye" when Ladonna says "I do not need to use magic to preserve my beauty".

I believe Ladonna because I think she couldn't be bothered to. She saved her magic for more important things, like turning disobedient goblin servants into cockroaches. Jenna though, Jenna is a spellbroker. I can totally see her being vain enough to use magic to enhance her appearance.

I also like the pink robe/dress. It gives her that Palanthian noblewoman look, and shows that she is on the good side of Neutrality. I imagine that type of shading is common in the red robes, with the Crimison red robes showing that their alleigence is closer to the black.

Well, obviously the pics in the book reflect the characters at various stages of life. Raistlin was a fine-looking youth, rather unlike what my impression from the books always left me with. The best looking person in the book is Dalamar on the cover though.

Jenna probably does use a little magic here and there to get that Botox effect. She's lived in Palathian society too long for that to come as a surprise. She is pushing seventy but that doens't mean she has to look it.

I liked the outfit but hated the color. Aside from the fact that it makes her look like a flamingo, she's supposed to be a Red Robe!

Or is this a new renegade Order like the Grey Robes were? The Pink Robes. I'm fighting back the urge to make a homophobic joke (despite being gay myself).

I really like the Jenna pic... and I thin that she's probably maintained her beauty as best she can.

On a sorta related note... anyone know if there's a copy of the picture under the Table of Contents without the table of contents over it? It looks quite bad ass.

If you want to know where I worked out her age from, it was the Second Generation.

She's only in her mid/late twenties when she and Dalamar are going at it.

I think they're red...the whole picture just seems to be kind of faded...shrouded in mist if you will. I don't think they're supposed to be pink.

And although I like this picture of Jenna (but not as much as Meyer's black robe :D) my favorite pic of Jenna in this time period is this one.

Uh...never? What in the hells are you talking about? Are you even doing anymore than just skimming over the post when you read it?

I think many wizards give a little variation on their robes. They all wear the same three colors to show unity, but they put their own individual touches upon them too.

For example, I recently created a white robe sylvan mage. I thought I would add some flavor, so she has some green celtic designs on the edges of her robes.

In Jenna’s case, I think it’s nothing more than her picking a shade of red that she likes.

Oops...missed that post. Thought you were commenting on what Psionycx said. Sorry about that.

You know...if you would just quote the post that you're referring to, this wouldn't happen. It gets to be confusing talking to you sometimes because you don't referrence what you're talking about. It'd help, anyway.

No, it's not that I'm trying to be overly nice or anything...when I recognize that I've made a mistake, I'm never above apologizing for it.

When you think about it, some portraits of characters are out of date very quickly.

Dalamar's pic in Age of Mortals, for example...but then again, do we want to see a rendiition of him with half his face ripped off?

While he may, I repeat may, be trying to apologize. You never actually see him write the words: I apologize.

Strange.

I did say "sorry." Does that not mean the same as "apologize" to you?
