Not only, that, Erik chose Jason Bulmahn, former campaign coordinator for Living Greyhawk, as associate editor of Dragon.

Does this bode well for Greyhawk?

Not really, all it means is that we'll see more of Erik's buddies writing gibberish for Dragon now too...

It's a pity really, since Dungeon was a great magazine before Monte Cook started stating the blatantly obvious in his column and Wil Wheaton started writing irrelevant tripe. Dragon will most likely go the same way now.

Dragon rather sucks lately, but Dungeon has been awesome (Maure Castle, Isle of Dread, etc).

Things should be looking up not that he's in charge of both.

Actually, last I heard, Jason was more partial to Mystara (aka the Known World) than to Greyhawk but, hey, good news all the same.

I could not agree more and have written to the editor of the Dungeon to say so.

In the Dungeon, I think the adventures at three power levels is a fantastic idea. I call the non-adventure material composed of opinion pieces (Wil Wheaton) and articles (Monte Cook) - the Junk in the Trunk.

It is trite and obvious and just fills space. I think Monte Cook could do much to contribute but not writing on so obvious a topic as "how to run a game." What's next? "Monte says Coke, not Pepsi, at the gaming table! Next issue -Is it Doritos or Frito-Lays? You've got to hear what Monte says!" Garbage.

And Wil Wheaton. I think I about choked laughing one Thursday Greychat when someone summed up their take on his column saying, "I feel sorry for his kids. This guy bashing their real dad is disturbed." Or words to that effect. I find "Wil Save" creepy and irrelevant.

I do think Mona as Dragon editor is a good move, however. The prior editor of Dragon hosed the launch of the "new" Dragon with three really poor issues.

The launch of the new Dungeon was in all ways superior, despite the Junk in the Trunk.

Mona cannot but improve Dragon. And he can start by upping the Greyhawk content. That and cutting down on all the mini-articles. They are too short to be meaningful and so numerous as to be distracting. The "new" Dragon was ill-concieved and poorly executed. Mona will do better, I think, but it will probably take six issues before anything is certain, given what I understand of their production processess. Give him time.

I guess what I was getting at, was do you think we'll see more Greyhawk content in Dragon? Erik has snuck in about as much as he could into Dungeon.

I'd say probably not, Dragon is the magazine for players, and really, there's not that much demand I've seen for "crunch" when it comes to Greyhawk. Most people who are into Greyhawk, from what I see, desire source material or "fluff." Dungeon seems more suited to delivering fluff.

Congratulations to Erik Mona. I wonder if his new large responsbility will mean that he has less time to spend on the Living Greyhawk Journal column.

Unfortunately, I have no incentive to add Dungeon magazine to my regular magazine purchase. I just hope they don't make the two magazines too dependent on each other
