Could draconians with the Improved Draconian Breath Weapon feat learn metabreath feats from the Draconomicon? Would their number of uses per day be reduced instead of the time in between being increased?

So long as metabreath feats don't require the creature to be a true dragon (i.e. one with age categories), then they would apply. I'm not sure how to configure the penalties without having another look at the book itself, but if you're after a draconian with Clinging Breath, etc, it should work.

That's incorrect. The key requirement here for taking metabreath weapons is that you must have a breath weapon where the time between uses is expressed in rounds (e.g. breath weapon useable once every 1d4 rounds). Unless the draconian can somehow change his breath weapon so that it is useable in increments of rounds (rather than so many times per day), he is unable to take any metabreath weapons.

Then that would invalidate their use by draconions with that feat, in that case. What I was trying to get across was that if you can meet the requirements of the metabreath feats, you can probably use them - and since draconians can't, then they can't.

If only there was a feat or Prestige Class (shameless plug) that allowed a Draconian to have a by round recharging breath weapon.

Alright, enough of that, lets talk seriously. Improved Draconian Breath Weapon already has some stunningly high prerequisites. A Baaz fighter, or any class that has a poor Will Save (even with the Baaz's starting +3 Will save) wouldn't qualify untill they were a Fighter 15. Which for a Baaz would be ECL 18, and HD 17. More or less the Last Feat they're going to take before going epic would be Improved Draconian Breath... for low Will classes anyway.

Now going about it this way it'd probably be easier to just make an epic feat for them. 'Unlimited Draconian Breath Weapon' would probably be fine for an epic feat.

But lets say you want this before epic level, lets say your playing a high Will save class, a monk or for some reason a caster (I say some reason because LA races usually make poor casters). This way its much easier to get the requirements for Improved Draconian Breath Weapon. Lets take a Baaz Monk (because I find the thought amusing), the Baaz would meet prereqs at Monk lvl 6, ECL 9, HD 8 this path makes the idea of waiting untill epic level seem silly so lets try to build this feat.

Unlimited Draconian Breath Weapon (General)
You have pushed your draconic heritage to a new level, no longer are you limited in the number of times a day you may use your innate breath weapon.
Prerequisites: Draconian, Draconian Breath Weapon, Improved Draconian Breath Weapon, base Will save +11.
Benefit: You can use your draconic breath weapon as a supernatural ability once every 1d6 rounds. Damage and saving throw DC remain the same as Improved Draconian Breath Weapon.

This feat could be taken by a Baaz monk (or caster) at level 12, ECL 15, HD 14 could take the feat (while straight combat classes with low Will saves would not be able to get it pre-epic). With this feat one could pick up one, maybe two Metabreath feats. Now that I think about it for the monk this would be really powerful... but for any of the Caster classes it would be a much needed injection to off set that -3 caster levels.

I'm thinking maybe it should be Base Will +12, which would be level 14, ECL 17, HD 16... but for a Kapak who would be level 14, ECL 18, HD 16 it seems a little much...

So what do you think?

heh I had one of my players want to use a metabreath feat for his draconian. He was very interested in the Draconimicon. Then I told him that the only way he could do it was if his breath weapon was measured in rounds. He came back with "it is.. I can use it once every 14400 rounds".. which is true.. but thats not the way its supposed to be

LoL ... the things players come up with.

I'd go with the base Will save requirement of 12, simply because it follows as a nice progression from the previous feats in this feat chain ... draconian breath weapon requiring base will +4 and improved draconian breath weapon requiring base will +8. I'd also go with the interval of once every 2d4 rounds for the breath weapon, simply because it seems like less of a great leap from 3/day.
