Confirmed!

It's actually an older piece. This book celebrates 20 years of Dragonlance, and so there are a few classic pieces within. There's also some great new artwork as well.

I absolutely love the illustration of Kitiara, it does a wonderful job of capturing her alluring femininity while not detracting from her deadly prowess as a warrior.

I really liked Jason Engle's painting of the five Draconian types in WoTL. Pretty slick of Sovereign Press to make up for Wizards dropping the ball on the Draconian art in the DLCS. Just wish the pic was bigger!

The Kitiara piece was one of the best ever for her character.

Couldn't agree with you more, on both counts.

I really liked the Soth pic, as well as the pic of Qualinost, the Plains of Dust, and Neraka.

About the only piece of artwork I didn't like was the one on p. 14 showing the two arguing dwarves.

Loved the Kitiara and Soth pics as well, and Engle is just plain awesome.

One of my favorites was the one of Feal-Thas. I think that captured his feel perfectly.

Feal-Thas was done by Jennifer Meyer, who also completely captured Porthios her color illustration of him. After Jason Engle made my noble draconians come to life in the Bestiary of Krynn, I had to see his take on the traditional draconian types.

The beautiful and talented Renae Chambers is our art director, taking over mid-stream for Towers of High Sorcery and completely running the show for War of the Lance. Expect even better in future products! Art is about to be commissioned for Holy Orders of the Stars...

Yeah, those draconian pics are incredible. I personally am happy to see that the baaz have the ram horns! Woo hoo! ;)

Oh...and that pic of Takhisis grabbing the Foundation Stone...whoa mama!

But...where's the pic of Porthios? I haven't seen it.

Yeah...I don't really like that one either...nor the one of Theros...what's the deal with his arm? The elbow is non-existant...and there's really no depth to it, so instead of his arm being bent...it looks mutated and teeny.

My favorite new pieces would probably be Kitiara, the High Clerist Tower, and Takhisis with the two draconian pieces and the Minotaur Marauder a close second.

I'm not a real big fan of the new "re-imagined" town pieces for Mt. Nevermind and Qualinost...as they are nothing remotely like what the cities would look like according to all descriptions (and even the Qualinost map in the WotL book). I'm not a fan of that sort of thing. Nereka was pretty cool though. But, that's what I liked so much about the High Clerist Tower...it's a new version of it...but it is obviously based on what came before...I like that. (Stawicki is really good at this, too)

Yeah, didn't particularly like that artwork either. Judging from the style, it looks like it was done by the same artist that did the two arguing dwarves.

True, the Mount Nevermind and Qualinost pics didn't particularly look like their city descriptions ... but it still looked cool to me.

Oh yeah, I know the flying citadel pic on p. 200 was a recycled one, but that has got to be the most impressive pic of a flying citadel I've ever seen.

That's Jim Holloway, one of my favorite artists from the older days of TSR and Dragon magazine. He was one of the major illustrators for Paranoia, and his work on the War of the Lance sourcebook is pretty good, in my opinion (but then I'm "old school" or whatever).

Cheers,

Well, I've been gaming for awhile (15 years, not sure if that's "old school") too and there's just something about them that I don't like. If I had to pick a reason, I'd say it's because they look more like sketches or concept-drawings than finished works. I do like the new CGI-ish cityscapes (Mt. Nevermind, Neraka, Qualinost), which seem to have been created by the same artists that created some of the city illustrations for d20 Old Vinnengael.

Could you try to get a few Lockwood pieces for Holy Order of the Stars?
