Hello fellow Gamers

I am about to run a campaign set during the War of the Lance. I am pretty familiar with the Dragonlance Setting and know most of what I should, but I can't find any details on the small town known as Gateway. I have seen it on an older map that I downloaded and it is mentioned as a Seeker village in the new War of the Lance sourcebook, but I still feel as if I need more information. Anything you know about it that you could share would be great. Thanks.

There's little info. on the town. The only place you may get something useful is from the book Bertrem's Guide to the Age of Mortals, which gives some basic info. about Gateway, such as its government, local politics, etc.

Unless there's some obscure info in a module somewhere...

But...for the life of me, right now, I can't even find the damn place on any Map. So, sorry...I guess I can't be any help after all.

It's south of Solace along the Solace stream, and in some maps it's at the southeast edge of Darken Wood.

You are right, there is not a lot of info about Gateway, so here is what I have made it for my campaign.

- I made it about the same population of Solace
- On the map, it is on a stream and right against the hills that separate it from Darken wood. I drew a map of my own of Gateway and placed it directly next to the mountains on the west and straddling the stream itself. So the town is full of bridges crossing the stream, but the buildings are very close together since there is not much room right next to the hills there. The main road that goes through town sports a covered bridge when it curves east to go to Que-Teh.
- The people of Gateway specialize in goat herding, so there are goat fields to the north and south of Gateway, right next to the stream.
- Gateway is full of inns and shops since it is basically a crossroads between Solace and New Ports (I have made New Ports a metropolis in my campaign since it is like the only port city for all of Abanisinia, it just makes sense).
-In Gateway, it is fashionable to name your shop, inn or tavern using alliteration. For example, in my Gateway, there is "The Bathing Basilisk", "The Stiff Staff", "The Bloody Butcher", and "The Frothy Forge". The Frothy Forge is the largest inn in Gateway and is both an inn and a blacksmith.
- The sheriff of Gateway is a level 5 cleric named Talia Gyllenhall. Talia is Ergothian in origin, her dark skin making this quite obvious. Talia also has desires of joining the Legion of Steel, but is torn due to her civic duties in Gateway.
- In the center of town, there is a statue of a minotaur fighting a hill giant. Gateway was once attacked by a trio of hill giants and it was only saved by the heroism of a unique minotaur simply named "Red".
- Down the road to the east is the city cemetery. It is plagued by a gargoyle that guards the largest crypt in the cemetery. Luckily, the gargoyle stays in the cemetery. Flora, the lead wizard at the magic shop "The Stiff Staff", rewards anyone who braves the dangers of the cemetery and brings back some zombie skin.

That is pretty much all that I have created for Gateway. I hope this helps and I am sure that you can fill in the gaps (like the size of the militia or the number of heroes that reside there).
