This post is for those of you who are unhappy with the way sorcery and mysticism were set down in D&D 3.5 rules. What alternate/variant rules do you use to recapture the mechanics and flavor of 5th Age magic? Did you create your own rules?
I found two variant rulesets that might work. One by a chap named Andre LaRoche, which you can find here: http://dl3e.com/fan/rules/11061.aspx, and one by Matthew Blasi (Rooks on the WoTC boards) here: http://dl3e.com/fan/rules/modules/11275.aspx.
Whose rules do you prefer, or what rules of your own do you work with?

I remember those!

You know... despite those rules showing their age (especially in the lucidity of their design), there are still a few gems in there. The magic system I created was actually balanced within the framework of the rules. And the Spell Change, Substance Change, and Spell Trigger rules kicked a**!

My gaming group and I played with these for about a year or so and had a great time. I really likes some of the work I did on the PrC's and to this day I still borrow some elements in what I'm currently designing.

But despite my strong SAGA love, I don't mind how sorcerers and mystics turned out in the DLCS. Of course, I've never cared for D&D magic at all, not even the standard psionics system. They're just so... regimented and bland.

Too bad I didn't have a strong enough design philosophy back then to really tidy up and clarify what's there. Ah well... memories, memories...
