I need some help with a War of the Lance campaign I want to run soon. I am having a severe case of writer's block, and can't come up with any original ideas to use for the game. The group I am running the game for has very little Dragonlance experience, so I ideally want the campaign to give them a good idea of what the setting is about. I was looking at some of the old modules, but I'm not sure I want to run the group through the Chronicles adventures. Are there any other old modules set during this period that are good, or alternatively does anyone have any good ideas for a campaign that I could work on? Thanks!

I know a lot of people will disagree with this sentiment, but I think it would be tremendously fun to run them through the Chronicles with their own characters, going through the modules and changing everything as I saw fit to give it my own sense of flair.

I ran the Dragons of Autum Twilight on the fly for a small 2nd edition group. The party was pretty jumbled but I was still able to run it out of the book, and read most of the dialogue straight up just changing names.

If you can get your hands into Knight´s Sword it is a great module to start PC´s new to Dragonlance. It can be easily adapted to D&D and it is one of the best 1st level modules I have ever played or DM.

Personally I find Tree Lords to be my favourite 4th Age era adventure. There is nothing better than adventuring in the Silvanesti Nightmare.

The Book of Lairs is another excellent vintage book with a lot of encounters and maps that can be sewn into an adventure.

If you want to do adventures in the WotL itself, there are places to go where the HotL weren't in the books. Places such as Daltigoth or the Goodlund Penninsula.

It'd always be fun to run the characters through the Glitterplace, too. That looks like that'd be a fun "dungeon" to run...confusing as hell...but fun.

Oh, and I agree with Luis above...Knight's Sword is a great module!

A good project would be to take all of the parts of the original module that wasn't covered in the novels (ie. Goodlund, Plains of Dust) and weave it into a new campaign in the War of the Lance.

Of course, not a project for me. I'm only interested in the time after the WotL.

Instead of doing a module you could have your group, like the companions, be a constant thorn in the side of one of the Dragon Highlords. Instead of accidentily stumbling in on it, like the heros, you could have them be actively and knowingly fighting them for any number of reasons. Each character could bear a grudge against one of the highlords or a unit that he sent out to "recruit". From that you can build a game to go just about anywhere. I personally stay away modules, I'll use them for info and a starting pont but after that it's all me baby!

KoD aside. That one looks and reads great so I'll stick to that one as much as possible.

Wild Elves was pretty good, but I'd suggest changing the drow to dark or cursed elves. I know people will disagree but my players enjoyed it when I ran it.
