I have read many of the dragonlance books, and I am running a DL campaign (albeit with only the DL campaign setting book atm, although I hope to get the KoD after the repreinting and the war of the lance book). Anyway I just started reading the DL books again, and finished the dragons of summers flame, and some other post chaos war books. Maybe I missed it but I was curious, what is the story behind Steel Brightblades parents...I want to...eventually take my chars from the war of the lance into the age of mortals. Anyway the question I have is when/where/how/why did Sturm and Kitiara hook up? I was amazed to find out who steels parents were, and could not figure out how. Is my recollection of the DL trilogy detailing the war of the lance that bad or is it in another book I have not yet got to read? Anyway sorry for the rambling, if anyone could give me a short story or some info on why Sturm and Kit got together I would be much obliged.

It is hinted at in Darkness and Light, volume 1 of the Preludes I trilogy.

Basically, they went to the moon together .. literally :D

No, your not losing your memory. This little "affair" is not anyway detailed in original DL trilogy. I haven't read Darkness & Light, but even that book doesn't really tell everything what I have heard.

Five years before the companions return to Solace (Dragons of Autumn Twilight) they depart to search the lost gods, and whatever. Kitiara and Tanis where not in good terms during this time and departed separate ways. Kitiara left with Sturm to North. Now, this travel is detailed in Darkness & Light.
I quess after this adventure Kitiara seducted Sturm (as revenge to Tanis). Then they left different ways. Kitiara soon noticed she was pregnant and rest is detailed in Second Generation where Steel parents are revealed.
Sturm went to his own adventures to find his family sword Brithblade. And I quess after Kitiara had her child, Steel, she went to Sanction and then we get to the Brothers in Arms -book.

And next time Sturm and Kitiara meet is actually in High Clerist Tower...

It wasn't actually detailed in Darknes and Light, but yes, it does hint at that Sturm and Kitiara had a thing going.

I recall once reading that Kitiara seduced Sturm in order to negate the vow of chastity that a Knight of Solamnia assumes at the beginning of their career. I believe technically Sturm didn't really have to observe it since he hadn't gone through some part of the necessary oaths for the knighthood to reach that level. However, he truly held the beliefs of the knighthood and considered himself beholden to the noble vows he would eventually assume. Since she became pregnant as a result of their little "encounter" she thought of it as Sturm getting back at her somehow for sullying him...."Sturm's curse" or something like that. Anyway, that's how I remember the story!

I really liked Steel as a character. He was quite complex. Not ever having known who his father or mother were as a child, then being confronted with it so suddenly in his twenties. His father, the savior of his queens most bitter enemies. His mother, the would be conquerer of Ansalon with no honor. I would have loved to have seen him develop over the years and see which path he'd have eventually chosen, but he sacrificed himself to save Krynn.

Well, he *DID* learn about his mother fairly early in his life. Sara told him that story, but she didn't say anything to him about his father.

Steel always knew who his mother was, but he didn't learn who his father was until he met Tanis and Caramon (I think...)

I read a timeline recently and noticed something about Steel.

Was he really 37 years old during the Chaos War? I don't know I always pictured him younger, more like in his mid 20's.

Well, he had to be at least 7 or 8 years older than Sturm Majere, Caramon and Tika's oldest child. He was conceived 5 years before the War of the Lance, so...It could be possible...

Actually, Tanin is their oldest son. But anyways, Steel was born about 4 years before the WotL, actually, and then the short story Kitiara's son takes place...what, 15 years after the WotL, the actual war was about a year, so, in Kit's Son, he was in the area of 20 years old. The Chaos War wasn't too many year later, was it? I'm thinking *MAYBE* 30 years old during the Chaos War.
