I don't have any of my novels here, and I was wondering if anyone has a description of what the original High Ogres were like? I have the description in DLCS but it is very vague.

I know Irda the only remaining High Ogres, but are they truley representative of the original High Ogres ...

I seem to recall them being bigger and stronger, etc.

If not large size, then I was thinking half-ogre stats without the negative mods to mental stats (maybe even a +2 cha with -2 wis)

Aren't Orge Titians similar to the original High Ogres?

not really. Titans are what the current Ogres believe their ancestors were. It's the kind of retroactive reimagining the way people today look to heroes of the past and glorify them.

Read the book The Irda. It's full of High Ogres (and despite its title it technically doesn't have a single Irda in it).

The Irda are descendent of the High Ogres, but not the same thing. The Nzunta are the closest there is to High Ogres, but even they are different than the original ogres.

The Nzunta, Mischta and Irda all look pretty similar, with a few minor differences.

I'd gather that the basic appearance of a High Ogre was the same too (ie blue skin, pointed ears etc)

read it when it first came out ... but like I said, it's not here.

I seem to remember the average High Ogre being larger and more powerful than the average human.

as I was reading thru WotL CS, some other things hit me ... there are Ogre Magi's, Hill Giants (not ogres but related? ... weren't the created by the Graygem ... iirc both Ogre Magi and Giants were created by the Graygem: DLA currently unavailable for me to look that up)

like I said before, if not large creatures (stats of human sized up to large?) then medium like half-ogre's, with a change to mental stats, -2 wis and +2 cha ...afterall they were full of themselves, but to a fault, lack of compasion)

... on a side note, is there a Age of Dreams SB in the works at all?

Actually, from what I understand of High Ogres, the closest thing in modern Krynn times is the Ogre Mage. Ogre Magi are not Graygem creations, but throwbacks(mentally) to High Ogres. The Irda, from their time spent all cooped up on their island, not doing anything but reading, suffered physically, but strengthened mentally from the original High Ogres.

From High Ogres came the Irda, Nzunta and ogres (regular).

From Irda came Mischta, and Yrasda (aphelka, thanic and ushama).

From ogres (regular) came bolandi, orughi, ogre-magi, ogre titans, hags (annis, green and sea), and giants (hill, storm and chaos).

From giants (most likely hill) came cyclopes, ettins, treants, trolls (regular, scrag and mewling), and the Saqualaminoi.

I think I have that right. That's one messed up family tree.

Some of that's been revised and/or approached from a new angle in the current continuity - using the DM's Screen booklet as a guide is a useful idea. Some of the races you mention haven't been and very likely won't be updated or included in Dragonlance for 3rd edition, such as the bolandi. The yrasda is now considered to be identical to the merrow (aquatic ogre from MM). Otherlands was mined for many ideas for the Bestiary but I wouldn't suggest taking it as written, much as I wouldn't suggest people consider the astral dragons or kodragons to be part of current continuity (from the DLE series of modules).

Cheers,
Cam
