Sweet! There's some cool info in there. I wonder what Steve was talking about when he said Khellendros was developed as a "patron of the Citadel of Light." At first I thought he was hinting at the Sage (but Sue says later that was Mirror...the much more obvious choice). Also, he hints at a larger role for Sunrise that never came to pass. Is he talking about the jettison of the Dragon Mage idea (which still irks me, personally)?

Also, someone should tell Steve that his idea for the afflicted kender has made it to official 3e sources...I'm not sure what he's talking about. He does seem a bit bitter at times, doesn't he?

I believe that Khellendros was disguised in human form as Shen Khoras (sp?).

Yeah, unfortunately Steve Miller can be that way at times.

I think Steve has alot of reason to be bitter, from not being able to do what he wanted with the material they were developing, to the early canning of SAGA, to being the only member of the 5th Age team actually online and having to defend what they were doing against all the flamers.

It's interesting that at one point one (or more) of the interviewees stated that their theory concerning the "afflicted" nature of some kender was invalidated (the theory being that the "afflicted" would fade out after 3 or 4 generations due to temporal distance from the horrifying event that transformed the "true" kender to "afflicted"), when we've got snippets from the War of the Lance book that actually seems to follow along with that theory.

Great interview, Trampas. I think all folks who you spoke with are very talented people, and the setting is better for their involvement. I think the comments from Miranda about the realities of a shared world from a design point of view are especially interesting!

Cam

Thanks, Cam!

What's interesting to me is to see why certain things were approached the way they were. Sometimes, you just scratch your head wondering what a game designer was thinking, but once you know, suddenly it makes perfect sense.

Knowing why something is the way it is gives tons of new depth.

I'm sure you think that about me all the time. ;)

I would have liked to have known what the greatest regret was in dealing with the setting. That would have been extremely interesting.

I can only speculate that they're not entirely keeping up on the newer game material, for whatever reason. While they've mostly moved on from DL, they have other projects for other worlds to keep their mind in one place.

Thanks DH! I was really good to hear about SAGA from soem of the people that poured their hearts into it. It's just too bad it ended as suddenly as it did. I would have really liked to have seen where they would have taken it.

...and even stuff that didn't... one of the fun things at that point was going through the thirteen or so file boxes of notes from the earliest days of Dragonlance in the 1980s...

Now there's something I'd like to be able to dig into. :whatsthis

I know it's rather superficial...but I really would have liked to know what the hell Fury was. I re-read the end of Eve of the Maelstrom again this weekend and still didn't see any reference. Nothing in the Dragons of a New Age Adventure and nothing in Rise of the Titans.

If anyone has a specific reference to him being a scion, I would appreciate you sharing it.

The key is actually earlier in the book, in Groller's flashback, IIRC. He sees a golden dwarf during the attack on his homestead, just before he goes deaf and meets Fury.

Ah, thank you. I'll check that out.
