I played the two Dark Sun games for computer about 10 years ago, but I never played DSO or Dark Sun PNP. Can anyone list the original materials that were published before Dark Sun 'died'? I would like to purchase some of the old stuff because I don't know a great deal about the Dark Sun campaign setting but I'm very interested in it.

Thanks

Also get your hands on the novels by Denning and Abbey since they put everything that you'll find in those boxes and books together in some holistic way that allows you to get the big picture of Dark Sun.

is there a good place to find them to buy (besides eBay)?..

I figured out PNP means Paper N Pencil right?.... but what does DSO mean tho?

Dark Sun Online I think, not sure if its a PC game or a post-on-the-net game.

Like you I never got to play the egames but they look like they suck considering today's standards, but that's because I never played (so don't take my word ;)).

Man, is this post of mine about something? Why do I even post...
Mach, Kam, Elonarc, please come back, I'm starting to write to myself!!

And if some obscure being claims there is a crossover Dark Sun/Spell Jammer product out there not on that product list, do us all a favor and just pretend you didn't hear.

I am quite busy at the moment, but I'll be able do dedicate more time to Dark Sun again in a week or so. But I got my sister interested in drawing Dark Sun pictures, she will hopefully send Jon an email in the near future.

Thanks for the info.

DSO was a PC game. Google it and you can find screen-shots and stuff. There's a group that's working on remaking DSO, too.

And actually, the PC games were quite fun. I prefer older games though, so I suppose they're not for everyone.

I have Domains of Dread, which is a Ravenloft setting that has Kalidnay's final resting place in it... I also have a xerox of the Spalljammer rules for rules modification for arriving in Athas. But to be honest I think that to mix Athasians in with other settings cheapens it a bit.

But that didn't stop me having my players pop over into a neighboring Gothic setting for a spell, it was hilarious!

I never defined what actual domain it was, but I made it based on Victorian England with a Jack the Ripper like hystaria, and as soon as the leather-clad Athasian types who were at least head taller than everyone else (except for the halfling) showed up, the PCs basically were running for their lives.

The Gladiators plowed through the constables, but when the Police called the military to start shooting, and I had Van Helsing types show up to contain the PCs for scientific investigation, the PCs were so out of their depth with the high technology everyone had that they were running scared thinking everyone was a Magic User... Lots of fun!

there was a Ravenloft setting called Masque of the Red Death that covered alot of such things.... D&D in victorian era.. a couple supplements for it too I think.. (look for it at svgames.com)

that sounds great.... Dark Sun makes for a great crossover setting... whether the PCs are coming from or going to Athas (or the NPCs are coming from Athas to whatever world the PCs are in).... its great for crossovers because it is such a stark contrast to any other setting..

I'll make a thread soon about the campaign I currently run... d20 Modern/Urban Arcana crossed over with Dark Sun..

I think you need to download the sound files (and the manual) separate from the game files.... check this site that somebody else posted today.. and click the Downloads link..

Clik on campfire... a circle of rocks, that can usually be found near settlements. You have one just out of the crop fields, as soon as you enter de white desert and a old man comes to talk to you. near his campsite there is one campfire you can use.

Oh. Don't forget to get the patches for the games. They resolve A LOT of bugs, some that can even prevent you from finishing the game. Unfortunately, there are several patches out there, and I'm uncertain as to which are applicable for the versions of the game in the links I provided above.

I got it. Just google Dark Sun shattered land copy lock and you can get the booklet of the game on a website.

I think its a decent game. Its even better in therm of gameplay than Baldur Gate since its not just hack and slash. The only thing that suck are the inconsistencies and the graphic but that cause the game is out-dated and I have no problem with that.

I like some of the map, like the Arena with the big dragon sculpture. The Silt sea with that drake skeleton coming out of the silt. The white statue. The big statue in the lava field. Pretty impressive for 1993.

Also its not just hack and slash, you have trick to resolve and you must use your logic (like the grappling hook to pass the bridge). All problem do not solve with hack & slash like in Baldur gate for exemple.

Its the same for the other SSI AD&D game. I think SSI made the best ad&d game. Too bad they no longer do it.

As for the inconsistencies, there a lot of it.

- Sewer under Draj???? Maybe that work for Tyr,Nibenay,Raam and Urik, but Draj and Gulg are city almost in the wilderness. Draj is in a mudflat and only the two-moon city(templar quarter) are like a real city. The rest is flat building in the field. Well, in my campaign, that sure there no sewer udner Draj and Gulg. And Balic to, but that cause they dump there waste and junk in the Silt canal.

- Sea of silt north of Draj and lava field south of it???? I think the game designer did'nt look at the Athas map before doing this game.

- the people in the village west of Draj say that they have no more Erdlu or Kank to eat (lol).

- The guy who see prophecies is talking about a wolf. There no wolf in Dark Sun.

-Tectutitlay building his pyramid???? Maybe the game is not set in the 190th King Age but long before that.Maybe this explain why the village in the game are not on the Athas map and the land surrounding it is different.

- There some other, just look.

I liked that! Sounded fun and curious.. specially because I was not familiarized with DS until I played that game. In fact, I started to like the Setting due to the game.
