During the Age of Despair, the WotL, while de good gods didnt come back, how do you deal with the KoS pre reqs of divine magic, and the magic advance in the PrC itself?

BTW, i ordered the WotL sourcebook (and did not arrive yet), but i have a game tomorrow and i need to decide this...

k, thats all...

looking at both WotL and DLCS ... um ... drop all spellcasting ...

keep knights of the crown the same ...

good grief, it's kinda hard to explain. to qualify for KoS you need to have one lvl in KoC ... then you can take the remaining levels as KoS

KoR is basically the same, except you need to be KoC-1/KoS-3 then you can take KoR (which will be a 5th lvl Knight of Solomnia)

KoC lvls 1-10
KoS lvls 2-10
KoR lvls 5-10

abilities for a Crown Knight do not change ... but Sword and Rose knights w/o spells kinda merge their own abilities in addition to some of the Crown Knight abilities ... and the level at which you gain them changes as well.

Well the only reason the Rose knight needs a spellcasting class to qualify is because of the sword knight so drop all spellcasting reqs for the rose knight and just say that the rose kngiht needs 1 level of sword knight.

With the sword knight just replace the spellcasting ability with some other abililties. Also their are some good examples of how to do the knights during the Non-god times posted on the Nexus. I would suggest you take a look there.

As far as for how the sword knights learn spells without previous spellcasting, this class is not the only class that does that. There are a number of classes tha grant spellcasting to previous non-spellcasters described in Complete divine so this is not uncommon.

One might also say that knights, like WoHS, acknowledge the gods but do not draw their power from them in the same manner as clerics. I mean, in 2e the knights received their spells on a weekly basis rather than a daily basis. So there is a little flexibility in this. Perhaps the sword knights receive their spells when they make their weekly prayers and do not realize their spells come from Kiri-jolith and the knights basically make thier prayers not to any particular god as their prayers would (IMO) be more concerned with bringing honor to their order and themselves rather than to bring honor and glory to the gods.

If you really take a good close look at DL, you will see many places in which Mysticism & Sorcery would seem to fit in nicely well before the fifth age. And the knight of the Sword fit this bill nicely.

It is only some backward thinking that says "Mystics and Sorcerors cannot exist prior to the summer of chaos because chaos was not released into the world yet." I don't believe that for one minute.

Even if it's true?

Mysticism and sorcery existed only at the most basic levels in mortals, not even enough to provide spellcasting. They did exist in creatures such as dragons and fey, who do not require the presence of Chaos' energies to access the primal magic of the world.
