If Takhisis was the abyss, and she is now mortal and dead, then what became of the Abyss. Is it still a limbo realm, is it gone, is it stabilized? What happened. Theories are welcome but facts and desired.

Takhisis wasn't actually the Abyss itself, the Abyss was her prison. The Abyss is still up and running, as of Amber and Ashes, where we get to see a god's personal abode.

Actually from all indications in both novel and game supplements she was the abyss. I'm not trying to argue with you but that was just the impression that I got from the material.

I suppose my question boils down to this. Is the abyss still the abyss or is it changed in a massive way due to Takky's death?

I never got that impression at all. I agree with Daedavias in that the Abyss was Takhisis' prison. I mean, how else would Raistlin be able to even go to the Abyss if his enemy was the place itself? Plus, I thought it was understood that the other gods of darkness resided in the Abyss, as well.

All of the Gods of Darkness, with the exception of Nuitari, reside in the Abyss. It is vast, unthinkably so, and contains within it any number of aspected fiendish realms which the gods have populated with their infernal servants and minions. The Abyss itself shifts and changes depending on the perspective of the visitor, as well. One might visit the Abyss and experience as a never-ending series of cold, wet tunnels stretching into infinity and inhabited by rat-like demons and tortured souls scrambling in the dark; or it might appear as a blasted dry volcanic desert baking under the twin suns of Sargonnas' wrath.

Cheers,

If anyone is using the 3e Manual of the Planes, the Abyss could be considered both Divinely and Highly Morphic. That is, a person sees his worst fears come to life, in the most horrible place he can imagine. On top of that, the greater gods will make the prisoner of the Abyss see what they want him to see.

A strong will is required to keep either the gods, or the plane itself, from imposing its reality on the person.
