I though some of you 'Hawkers might find this interesting/despicable/ubelievable.

King Lynwerd of Nyrond married Lady Xenia Sallivarian last May (I was there, at the LG Interactive). Now, said king's wife is expecting. An in-character narrative follows:

Aynwan ran on; breathless, but too excited to stop. The surcoat bearing the insignia of the royal heralds rode up and bunched around his waist. Annoying, but at least giving his legs room to move; something the
little gnome was thankful for.

"Big news, really big news. Got to get there, got to get there." His thoughts playing counterpoint to the steady rhythm of his stride.

There, just coming into view up ahead, was his destination. A small unassuming tavern located at the crossing of two roads. Nothing special, but successful nonetheless as it was a known gathering point for the various adventurers of the kingdom.

Aynwan reached the door, panting hard. Small beads of sweat dripped from the end of his nose and gathered on his brow. As much as he wanted
to charge right in, he knew he had appearances to maintain. Pausing by the nearby horse trough, he splashed some water on his face and waited for his breathing to return to something resembling normal. A few gestures and some quiet arcane words, and he was again clean and fresh.

Striding into the tavern, Aynwan looked about at the gathered throng. Not the best night the tavern had ever seen, but better than average. Locating a nearby table with some empty space, the gnome climbed up and stood waiting for attention. He didn't get it. The patrons all seemed too involved in their own private conversations to notice someone of his stature.

"Of all the... Fine. We do this the hard way."

Pulling a small horn from where it hung bandoleer style from his right shoulder. Sucking in a large breath, Aynwan blew a loud and piercing note. All conversation stopped as eyes turned to the royal herald.

"That's better," thought Aynwan, "time to give this bunch something to really talk about."

"Hear Ye, Hear Ye! Be it known throughout the Kingdom. Today it is announced that Queen Xenia is pregnant! Let all citizens rejoice! Divinations place the birth sometime around mid-to-late Coldeven next. Perhaps even during Growfest."

There was silence. Perhaps for a full minute, as the various patrons let the news settle in. Then as one a great cry of joy rang out, and dozens of glasses were raised in triumph. The barkeep opened his stock and the ale flowed - free, and long into the night. None noticed the gnome slip quietly but the door and on into the street.

"Must keep running, must keep running. Big news, really big news." Aynwan's thoughts trailed behind him as he ran to his next destination.

Yes, this is the official announcement that Queen Xenia has indeed conceived. It took the royal healers a few months to verify the fact, but this is official. And for those that keep track of such things mid-Coldeven would place the birth round about March 15. In case it becomes important.

Any comments?

"Too happy too soon" would be a good summary.

What I liked about post-war Nyrond (and my latest campaign there began in 585 and is now in 587) was the grim & gritty feel of the place.

Everything needed to be done. Political factions were ready to battle for the throne. Enemies were at the gates. In short: an adventurer's wonderland!

Now, barely ten years after the war, LG Nyrond is more stable, has a good king, has seen its enemies disappear one after the other (apart for the Pale) and is back on tracks.

Wow, what a surprise..

So Xenia was recovered? Please describe the adventure to recover her soul.

Allow me to oblige.

There is a series of four Nyrond adventures called The Scavenger Hunt wherein heroes of Nyrond venture into all corner of the nation. Each adventure reveals a clue leading the reason why Xenia was ill and how to save her.

It culminates in NYR4-03: He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not. A royal wedding is to take place. But, Lynwerd is marrying Realla Nader, not Lady Xenia. During a special costume ball on the eve of the grand nuptials, the heroes learn that Realla is a succubus whom has cursed Xenia. Realla's plan is to marry Lynwerd, charm him and rule Nyrond (and eventually all of the Flanaess).

Of course, the adventurers foil the succubus Realla's plans at the altar and save Xenia - therefore saving Lynwerd and Nyrond. And, Xenia and Lynwerd marry in the Nyrond interactive "The Royal Wedding".

It seems LG (the alignment, not the campaign) kings of the Flanaess really have to invest in Sense Motive. First Belvor takes a fiendish red dragon as best friend*, and now Lynwerd falls for a succubus

* that was in Fate of Istus for those who wonder
