I've started reading the War of Souls trilogy - and I didn't read Dragon of Summer Flame, nor the Second Generation. So, if I may ask several questions regarding the changes Krynn went through:

Regarding dragons: What is the Dragon Purge? When did it occur? From where are the dragons that are not native to Krynn? Did Beryl and Malys appear in the previous novels?

That's all. For now. Thank you!

(I know these boards are not supposed to discuss novels - so I'll limit myself only to setting issues. I hope it's OK. If not - please tell me.)

Wow...okay, you missed some important stuff (namely Second Generation, Dragons of Summer Flame, and Dragons of a New Age.)

But for these...DoSF ended with the gods being gone again. About 3 years after the Chaos War, the red dragon Malystryx showed up and began to claim land as her own (namely the Goodlund Penninsula...which really screwed with the poor kender). Wherever the alien dragons are from...there are several who came through. These dragons began a war with the local dragons vying for power on and control of Ansalon. This war was called the Dragon Purge. Dragons killed dragons then drained the dead bodies of their magical power.

Five dragons became supreme Dragon Overlords of much of Ansalon. Malystryx (Malys) the Red controls Balifor, Goodlund, and the Dairly Plains. She turned this land into a desolate volcanic wasteland using the magical powers of her Skull Totem (a shrine with dragon skulls of her victims).

Khellendros (Skie) the Blue took control of northern Solamnia and turning it into a desert waste (but not to the extreme that Malys did).

Beryllinthranox (Beryl) the Green took control of Qualinesti and the Kharolis region...turning it all into a forested area.

Onysablet (Sable) the Black grabbed the lands southeast of New Sea and turned it into a putrid swamp.

Gellidus (Frost) the White took control of Southern Ergoth and used his magical powers to turn it into a glacier (also creating "the Gale" in the Straights of Algoni...making it a trecherous water to sail).

Aside from those 5, there are several smaller Dragonlords.

Pyrothraxus (Pyro) the Red controls northern Sancrist. But by all acounts, the gnomes have driven him mad.

Mohrlex (Pitch) the Black grabbed the Great Moors in Nordmaar as his home. He's a bit of an excentric dragon enjoying finer things and has an odd sense of humor.

Lorrinar (Fume) the Green grabbed the Woods of Lahue to the west of the Astivar Mountains.

Fennalysten (Cinder) the Red grabbed the regions of southern Estwilde to the west of Taman Busuk.

Iyesta (Splendor) the Brass was the only good dragon to grab land. She grabbed up the eastern most regions of the Plains of Dust. She worked to help the Legion of Steel (a new knighthood that promotes not good or evil agendas but justice for all races) in her realm and to fight the other Dragonlords and Overlords.

Stenndunuus (Thunder) the Blue controls the land that border Splendors to the west.

Cryonisis (Ice) and Fresindala (Freeze) the Whites grabbed up the eastern and western portions of Icewall Glacier.

Bryneseldimer (Brine) the Sea Dragon became Dragonlord of Dimernesti, the Sunken Land off the southeast coast of Ansalon.

Some of these dragons appeared in previous novels (the Overlords favor predominately in Rabe's Dragons of a New Age trilogy).

I don't know if I did understand it correctly, but Sky (Khellemdros) became big because he was travelling through lots of dimensions in search for Kitiara. Throgh that travelling he met some other dragons... But he was not so big as other dragon lords, but he was also magnificent!
In Dragons of the new age, it is written that all other big dragons as Malys or Berryl were in gang with Thakhisis... maybe they were driven in dragonlance saga because of power that they could gain...

Skie grew large in one dimension because he aged faster there I believe.
Malys, Onysablet, frost, and Berryl don't know who Takhisis is until after they start learning about the world they invaded.

Unfortunately, this has all be retconned.

Beryl, Malys, Sable, Frost, and Skie are all huge because they come from a race of dragons that are enormous...from another dimension or another world.

They grow larger more quickly because of their vampiric practices during the Dragon Purge (which essentially allows them to increase their age category quickly without actually aging at all).

Skie is also one of these alien dragons who found his way to Krynn during the early years of the Age of Despair (yes I know this flies in the face of previous materials...but that is now the "truth" of the matter).

Okay, the dealio with Skie is that he was a very young alien dragon who was the size of regular Krynnish dragons. He fell in love with Kitiara, and when she died, he basically disappeared for a while. Somewhere along the line, Taky told him that Kit was in The Grey, and he could have her if he found her. So, he went dimension-hopping, and while only about 20 or 30 or so years passed on Krynn, he looked for her for thousands of years, until he was normal sized for an alien dragon(which is super-sized on Krynn).

Also, remember that Malys, the biggest thing on Krynn, was a small dragon on her world. All the other dragons picked on her, and made fun of her name, and stold her hord emoney. Doesn't that make you wan tto go find their planet?

Give me Huma's Lance, Dragonrider PrC, Great Wyrm Gold Dragon, and epic levels. Then I'll be ready to find that alien world.

*glances at Age of Mortals* Malys has 60 some HD and she's SMALL on her world...

Good luck there buddy.

Random thought, why is the word small bigger than big?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tak originally tried to groom Khellendros (Skie) to be the uber dragon on Krynn. When Tak moved the world, that was when the other dragon lords happened to 'find' the world and moved in. Tak was too weakened after moving the world, and was unable to to do anything about the new dragons encroaching on her little world and her plans for it. Once she had enough strength, she acted to systematically get rid of the dragon overlords, without even trying to work with them. She basically killed Beryl and Skie indirectly, and Malys directly. (She killed Skie since he refused to work for Tak, and actually worshipped the memory of a puny human (Kitiara) above Tak which was an insult, and a very bad one at that) If Tak hadn't been dethroned, she might have done away with Sable and Frost as well...
