I have been playing a DS campaign for a few months as a Psion. My DM has suggested we all make backup characters in case "someting" happens. I recently purchased the Complete Divine and really like the Favored Soul, but I'm not sure if it would work in DS.

My group is small only 3 poeple 2 PC and a DM. We use gestalt characters and I was planning on making my backup character an exiled goliath (barbarian 10/ favored soul 10) the ECL would be 11. What do you think?

Assuming your DM is happy to let you stray a little from standard DS canon (and why not?), you could come up with some interesting ideas for this guy. I dunno much about goliaths (big guys who live in the mountains?), but you could have them as being an off-shoot of the half-giant race or something like that. Maybe your guy has air drake ancestry, which has led him to develop divine powers through his devotion to the elements of air. This might also explain his exile, if his people are usually oriented towards the elements of earth. Having an air drake ancestor could also help to explain some of the weirder stuff that the favoured soul class introduces (like, umm, wings, heh heh) and also ties in nicely with the energy resistance and damage reduction. Sounds like it will be a pretty potent combination, too, but in a small game that should be fine.
