Nope. They've defeated Sindra but there are worse things in store for them than her in the Peak, since they're all about 12th level at this point.

Cheers,

When we last left our heroes they had defeated Grigolath (sp) and Sindra at the peak and discovered the major artifact there-in. This was one week before the SoS preview came out and although I could continue the game the holidays disrupted the regular gaming schedule. That and I didn't mind taking a turn as a player in a short adventure my buddy wanted to DM. Though two of my gamers are really itching to get back to Dragonlance, so I'll probably plow into the preview chapter next weekend. Though I have an idea for Kenermore before they go.

So tune in next time for the dramatic continuation, "On firey wings," or "To Thistle, or Knot."

Oh and for the record they're 10th level after beating Sindra, of course it's a three man crew and they've had plenty of sidetrips.

Wow, 10th level. The group I DM for are around 6th level. I figure by the end of KoD they will be around 7th or 8th level.

I'm looking forward to SoS. I hope it hits the stores sooner than later.

I should say that I went off on a tangent in Ak Kurman exploring the character's backgrounds and running some enabling adventures. Yes they are tenth level, but a great deal of that is not from the module itself. I heavily modified the Ghost Blade adventure because I had a mental image of the Ghost Blade and the Shard of Light being weilded together, tossed that in. Had a cabal of Grey Robes in Ak Kurman the party eventually had to deal with (which allowed the rogue to steal a spellbook and start teaching himself magic for his eventual turn into a spell filtch.) There was some background exploration on the characters, a chance for some good ol' role playing. I also putzed a bit with some high seas adventure since they got on the wrong boat (THEY SAID "Sure we'll join your crew" TO THE PRESS GANG!) Took me awhile to get them back on the road (ship) to Balfor.

So yeah, they were level ten AFTER the encounter, level 9 durring it. Still had a bit of a time with it. I'm thinking I should have added another Spawn into the mix, they did take Sindra down pretty quick, but the battle with Grigolith took a long time and they actually used some smart tactics against Sindra (Rogue used his whip to disarm Sindra... after that it was a beat down, before that Sindra nearly killed the ranger)

All in all I'm happy with their progression. I figure the self correcting nature of the XP system (they'll be getting less since they're higher level) will put them right ways after a chapter or two.

I started the Ghost Blade adventure but altered the beginning of it for my campaign. Instead of the kender having the map I had it that the Kapak PC in my party obtained it.

The player ended up missing a session and to explain his absence I had the Kapak disappear during the night while the rest of the party slept at an inn in Pashion. When the Kapak player returned the next session I explained to him that during that night he was visited by some former draconian acquaintances who sought him out in order to have him translate the elven map to the location of the Ghost Blade. The PC talked them into letting him "study" the map himself and ended up stealing it. He rejoined the party with the draconians in pursuit of the PC Kapak. Hence the start of the Ghost Blade adventure.

Funny thing is that the PC Kapak didn't say a thing about the map to the rest of the party till they were in the Valley of Hurim. The valley being many miles away from the crypt that holds the Ghost Blade (I changed that it belonged to a Silvinesti hero vs. a Qualinesti).

They have yet to go and retrieve the Blade.

One of my PCs is an elven ranger, Qualinesti, who was minor nobility as part of his background. So I grabbed that and ran with it. Forgive me as I don't have the names handy but I ended up writing out a family tree of the elven royal family to figure all this out. Basically he's a decendant of the weilder of the Ghost Blade, though through matriarcal lineage. His father was a senator though, he's the second son though. I changed the Ghost Blade into a short sword (because that was his style two short swords). I had the Ghost Blade's owner die well before the cataclysm while traveling home from Istar on some diplomatic mission. For one reason or another they decided to entomb his body far from home (partly why the tomb is so well hidden) it was a couple days trip north of Ak Kurman on a strangly forrested stretch of coastland. Interestingly enough he has but does not use the helmet or the sheild (he decided without any prompting from me to leave the armor "It wouldn't be right to strip him." but he took his 'birthright') The helm and the sheild he carries intending to give them to his sister and surviving brother, but he hasn't once used either. Something that's earned him a bit of extra story XP.

Also I had Rowan Whispertouch (from chapter 1 of KoD) be the kender with the map. He also was in Port Balfor before them and was helping Kronn with something. I've decided him arriving at all the major cities before the PCs to be a running gag.

I did find it odd that the Ghost Blade was a long sword and that the Shard of Light was a short sword. I wish I changed the Shard into a long sword before the party found it. Its due to this that the KoS in my game doesn't want to wield it (he's holding out for a weapon that he can power attack with). The funny thing is that the Kapak rogue is using the Shard instead due to the Knight's reluctance. The KoS has made the draconian swear to use the Shard for the pursuit of good.

My group *FINALLY* started KoD last session...a while back, we finished the Ghost Blade, which the party's Ranger has taken a *LOVES THE CRAP OUT OF*, whil ethe Kender made friends with the kender who gave them the map(I forget his name). I actually had the Kender come with them(I mean, what kender would just leave once the exceitment started?). It wa great. When they were going through the room with the Wooden Warriors, the group's Kender(who's also our Sorcerer) had casted Detect Magic alreay, and figured out that the statues had omething about them, so they walked through the middle to be farthest away from them(the center tile being the trigger that makes them come alive!). First, our Kender, the Kapak Bard, and the other Kender walked right over it! Our Kender and the Kapak both succeeded on their Reflex saves to avoid pressing down the trigger, but the NPC Kender didn't! He said "Oops...", and the players started freaking out, ebcause they thought they were going to die! It was great fun. I was gonna go right to SYlvan Key, but our Ranger had to go home(it was about 4 in the morning and he had to go to work in a couple hours), so instead I ran a puzzle adventure, and then an adventure fighting dark clerics of Morgion and Chemosh. THen last session, our Kender couldn't come, but I was forced to continue on, so they finally beat Sylvan Key and started KoD.

After badgering my group for several months about fleshing out their characters, they didn't get me in-depth backgrounds until they were half way through the desolation, so unfortunately, there hasn't been alot of roleplaying focusing on character development and backstory since I didn't know much about the characters. Once we get to a populated area, I figure things will slow down tremendously as I can finally get some real interaction with the group aside from spontaneous roleplaying and acting off of personality alone.

As for average exp lvl, the group is about lvl 6, and have just managed to rescue the kender inside the Peak. The dragonspawn guard messed them up pretty good, and I fear the group might get whupped pretty bad when they explore into the surrounding area. :evillaugh

When we last left our heroes...

Somehow this reminds me of when the television show Angel comes on and it says "Last time on Angel..."

Yes, I watch Angel, shoot me....

Okay.

*BLAM BLAM BLAM*

Okay, now that we've gotten rid of him....our group has just started KoD, and they're already level 13. We played for a couple years in our first campaign, but it was so infrequent so we only got to about level 6, so I decided to set our second campaign(based on our first one, although the Elf decided to become a Kapak) at 8. Since then, we've had about more sessions than we had in the entire 2 or so years that we first gamed, and we started on Labor Day. Also, we have a fund set up to buy D&D materials with; but no one would ever donate, except for spare change, and let's face it, it takes a *WHOLE* lot of pennies to buy a set of friggin' *DICE*, let alone a book, so I made them a deal: if they give me money to spend on D&D, I'll give their characters extra XP or Steel. Last session alone it grew by about $40! Of course, I don't offer a lot, 1 cent=1 XP or 5 stl, but the first $5 they donate goes 1 cent=10 XP or 50 stl. And yet, there's still one guy who hasn't given me $5 yet...
