Can you Help??    Sorry the only help I can suggest is renaming this thread to solo playing... maybe I just have a dirty mind. :-) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : SputnikCorp Date : 09-07-03 09:28 PM what i used to do was use the random dungeon design in the appendix of the 1E DMG. you choose from a select number of starting rooms and you start rolling the die at each door. i had a party of three go up to 6th level this way. mind you i must have cheated like every other roll. what was that one BSOLO adventure where you had to investigate a castle-sized lion? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : WizzyBlackmore Date : 09-07-03 11:46 PM That BSolo mod is called Ghost of Lion Castle Will check out the 1E DMG, are there solo directions or just play??thanks:angel: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Contrarian Date : 09-08-03 03:59 AM There was an AD&D solitaire module, MV1, Midnight on Dagger Alley, but it uses pregenerated characters (player's choice of assassin, monk, or thief, all sixth level). Probably not adaptable if you're not playing something thief-like. As for solitaire adventuring using the 1E DMG, I've done it too. There are some specific rules included for solo play (mostly about listening at doors). The system works OK for mindless dungeoneering, except when the random monster tables throws a difficult-to-run monster at your character. (It wouldn't hurt to have a copy of The Rogues Gallery or Shady Dragon Inn for when the tables stick you with an NPC encounter.) There are various "random table" articles scattered throughout old issues of Dragon. A quick check of my collection found three potentially useful articles, all reprinted in Best of Dragon Volume 5: one for randomly determining NPC magic-users' spell use (originally from issue 38), one on randomizing above-ground ruins (issue 54), and one about randomizing the contents of libraries (issue 37). And for true old-school weirdness, there's always Flying Buffalo's dice (http://www.flyingbuffalo.com/dice.htm). Dammit, now you've gone and made me nostalgic for solitaire adventuring.... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Lost_and_Damned Date : 09-08-03 04:47 AM there were a few solo modules in the old UK magazine called Warlock by Games Workshop in the early 80's as i think there also were some in TSR's old Imagine Magazine as well, i'll have to dig mine out and take a peek.... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : WizzyBlackmore Date : 09-08-03 11:43 AM Thanks for your replies, where in the 1E DMG is that solo info? I scanned the apendices, saw random dungeon making but it did not seem to be the solo info....or am I not getting it? Would love to also track down some of those old mag. issues w/ solo mods.....if anyone can list them, would be cool....cheers:D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : WizzyBlackmore Date : 09-08-03 12:04 PM Is there a dungeon map in 1E DMG to follow for solo play or is the player supposed to map the dungeon on graph paper based on the 1d20 role and the tables??? Am I looking in the right place in the DMG? ANd, can my D&D character be compatable w/ AD&D rules or should I convert to D&D rules when, say encountering a random monster? I still have alot to learn! Thanks.:D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : SputnikCorp Date : 09-08-03 03:53 PM it's on page 169, appendix a: random dungeon generator. by D&D you mean 3rd edition or old D&D? it will take a bit of converting on your part for either edition, alotthe monsters in 1E exist in either edition. i never tried using an existing map for this style of solo play. i guess this is a good opportunity to start tinkering with some of your own rules -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Stonebeard Date : 09-08-03 08:41 PM More specifically read page 173 top left column. This is the part that describes how to use Random Dungeon Generation for Solo play. Its not a long piece. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : Lost_and_Damned Date : 09-09-03 03:46 AM right there's "Tomb of Kings" in TSR's Imagine Magazine issue 12 March 1984 in issue 22 January 1985, there's a Michael Moorcock one-on-one (DM vs P) module called "Earl Aubec & the Iron Galleon" in issue 24 March 1985 there's a module suitable for one-on-one called "Guilty if Caught" their the only one's i can find in the Imagine Magazine's that i have (i have 22 of the 31 issues they printed :D ) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : WizzyBlackmore Date : 09-09-03 04:45 PM Thanks fellas, I'll try w/ my 2nd level 1st ed. D&D character, converting does not seem to be a problem...or is it?? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : Stormcrow Date : 09-09-03 07:10 PM Wizzy, If you have a friend too far away to play with you, the two of you could come up with solo modules for each other. Use the random dungeon generation tables in the Dungeon Masters Guide for most of the play. But have your friend come up with a theme (like "Recover the Lost Sword of Whoosiewhatsit"), some plot-specific rooms, and some special non-combat encounters. He should e-mail these to you, and you shouldn't look at any until you hit roll 18 ("Special") on Table V.F ("Chamber or Room Contents"). Then open up the one for your listed level (decide ahead of time how many dungeon levels there are, and how many "Special" rooms you can find on each level, then your friend can create the right number of encounters at the right strength. There's also another "special" on Table VIII.B.: Lakes. Do the same for your friend, so he can play a game too! See the instructions for solo play on page 173 of the Dungeon Masters Guide. You may find it difficult to implement Tables V.I. and V.J., as you can't easily play the defeat of these defenses if you already know what they are! (If you know the treasure is kept in a secret compartment, it's not very secret!) You may want these to be worked out ahead of time by your friend.
