Is a Wiz of HS required to take on specialized schools (and the prohibited schools that go with it)? The Towers of High Sorcery states they may, making me think it's optional.

I'm not talking about the pre-reqs to become a Wiz HS; I'm talking about once the 1st-lvl of Wiz HS is taken.

Arcane Focus is optional. You can always stay unspecialized, or keep your current level of specialization (if you were already a specialist). However, you can't choose any other schools if you do take Arcane Focus - you must choose one of the two schools belonging to your Order.

So what about specialists of other schools not favored by the Orders (conj, evo, etc.) Can they still be WoHS just without the additional benefits of the specialization of their orders or would they be considered renegades?

They can take the prestige class, but they can't make use of the Arcane Focus class feature and thus wouldn't have any additional specialization benefits.

So then it is possible for a Black or a Red Robe to spell focus and greater spell focus in say abjuration and divination if they dont take arcane focus?

Yes, there's nothing preventing them from doing that. Outside of the funny looks they'll get from their fellow wizards.

Cam
