What Athasian monsters should have the Dragon type? I know drakes ought to be dragons, as are (d'uh!) the sorcerer-kings. But what else should have the Dragon type? Are draconic creatures the rarest of all Athasian lifeforms?

I wouldn't say that the SKs are like the standard Dragon type. They are more powerful and don't advance like the D&D Dragons. This advancement BTW could be used by almost any Monster Type IMO.

I have my problems with the Spinewyrm and the Silkwyrm being Dragon type.
The only other beast I could think of would be the Nightmarebeast. It's a high Psi/Def, and sucks your life force, it's also very intelligent and Powerful, everything a standard Dragon needs to be .

I think very few monsters should have the Dragon type, Sorcerer-Kings being just about it. Dave Noonan's Spinewyrm is quite good, though. Still, I don't want to see a lot of dragons.

Would dray be considered dragon type? They are after all modled after them.

Actually, I'm of the opinion (and I realize that I may be contradicted by the Monster's Bureau on this) that Fey are even rarer than Dragons. There are, at most, three Fey races that I think should be alive in the current age:
  • Spirit of the Land
  • Pyreen
  • Avangion (it's feyness is debatable)

I thought a Spirit of the Land was considered an elemental? And Pyreen are fey? Wow. I was unaware.

No contradiction that I am aware of.

I still wanted Sand Bride to be one, but I got overruled.

Nothing says Athas to me like a cursed Fey that drains negative energy. Ah well.

this interests me because i recently engaged in a conversion system for putting the dragons in other game systems. borys, by the definition in DK, is 40' and 50k pounds. compared to the traditional dragons in the 2nd MM, that puts him as a age cate. 12 Great Wyrm...of the chromatic white dragon type, the smallest of all chromatics (but not least of evil!)... borys wins because of psionics and magic, hands down of course, but rating the 10th dragon transformation stage to more conventional ideas of dragons doenst produce what one might expect (size wise) from a fully-fledged dragon king. i wouldnt call them true dragons anyways, i think its just that the imagery lends to an awesome campaign setting. a quick glance at one of the main types of sauroids in the WJ, like minotaur lizards, id fiends, everyones friends the drakes, and maybe even mekillots could technically come under draconic. and of course the Dray I & II

Agreed, Borys is pretty small. But in my own stopgap conversion, I give Athasian Dragons huge strength bonuses, basically all stats are on par with a Prismatic Dragon, so even though they're small, they're definetely not weak. Remember the humble Goliath Beetle!
