Hi,

I recently acquired DLCS and I am getting crazy: am I really blind or are the following really missing from the book?

1) Tables with starting ages/aging of the new races (Minotaurs, Kenders, etc.)

2) Tables with height/weight of the new races

3) Indication about the starting gold for the "Noble"

Please tell me that I am blind: I do not want to believe that someone has actually forgotten to include these. ;)

You are correct that they were not in that book. But that info can be found in the DL DM screen. A booklet was included with the screen which provides that material.

Hum... So WotC makes a mistake and Sovereign Press corrects it? Nice of them...

Anyway I find this a bit hard that they did not release this info as Web-Enhancement or errata. It is really basic information that ought to be in that book. I do not like the idea of having to have to buy a new product to paliate to the ommission of another one...

These things are included in the Dragonlance DM Screen.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, the DLDMScreen is an absolutely excellent buy! Sure it has the info you're looking for, but it has so much more that makes it worth it just for the booklet. Information on the MM creatures and how they fit into Dragonlance is my personal favorite section. Not to mention it has "generic" NPCs of every class to use...and rolled up dragons.

Not to mention the screen is a great thing to have...and the painting's pretty.

Completely worth the $15.

Humm... OK, you nearly convinced me. I will think about it. ;)

But I think it is still a strange publication policy. Just imagine you buy a cooking book on chinese food and then you realize that they did not translate any of the names of the ingredients. BUT you can buy another book where they did... How would you feel?

Hungry?

But really, I have to recommend the DM Screen as well. Every DL DM should own it.

It's pretty standard, really. Obviously Sovereign Press are making every effort not to have it be a routine practice, but many game publishers have done this in the past, and quite often it's the DM's Screen that has all of the little nuggets that were somehow cut out, trimmed for space, inadvertantly escaped being included, etc. SP does work on errata and corrections which get put online at www.dragonlance.com, but this is one of those cases where it seemed like it would make sense just to put the additional resource material in with the screen.

Cheers,

There was some complaints by the fanbase about having to buy errata of the DLCS in the DM's screen. SP seems to prefer fixing mistakes in subsequent sourcebooks, with the presumption that not everybody will read the online corrections or that it is an incentive to buy the next book.

For the record, the WotL sourcebook is much, much better than the DLCS, so if you are dissappointed with your purchase there is a better option available. It doesn't replace the DLCS entirely (so you can't swap one for the other) it does give a more complete picture of the campaign world

As for the DM's screen... it isn't an essential resource. A DM's screen that came out now would be much more useful for the simple reason that many of the tables on the DL DM's screen aren't particularly needed for frequent reference. I mean, how many of us will ever, ever, need to know the 5th Age magic failure rate for a particular year during the War of Souls? Who needs to look that up at every session?

A collection of tables to collect the DLCS, WotL, and ToHS though would have been extremely useful. A table of holidays would be cool on a DM's screen too.

Inside the booklet you have some NPC's with stats, a description of how the core D&D monsters fit in the setting, and various DLCS supplementary information. It is somewhat useful, but it isn't a "great" resource. I didn't even bother bringing it out for my DL game recently.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback and/or explanations about the publication policy.

I guess I'll just head for my friendly local game store and buy the screen then...

Best wishes to all of you.
