I was planning to make an adventure set in the Desolation about rebuilding the Losarcum tower and undoing the Desolation. How much help will KoD be for people who adventure in the Desolation, as i understand that that takes place during KoD. Should i get KoD for this purpose or not?

KoD has the most relevant information on the Desolation to date in any DL product. It's the only product to my knowledge that would be of assistance. The only other products that might be of any help would be Tasslehoff's Map Pouch coming out in March and then Specter of Sorrows in April.

I wouldn't doubt that the KoD & SoS series is heading in that direction. I have a feeling that by the end of the modules that the PC's reverse the Desolation and re plenish its's forests.

Thats all just a hunch though

Well, it is promised in the campaing books, that this campaing will have permanent impact. But to change Desolation. Who knows.

Either way, Key of Destiny gives very good info about Desolation (creatures, encounters, "natural" dangers). I didn't know even half of those things - Desolation is REALLY dangerous place. But does Desolation look-like that in 40SC, that we don't know yet. In early 39SC were have MAJOR disaster there when Peak goes off (beginning of SoS). So, rebuilding the Losarcum which is in the top of the peak would be little hard, but maybe little later or next year...

On the other hand - it would be amazing idea that new Losarcum would be magically protected from the eruptions and lava of Peak, and it's new defence would actually be the Peak and it's unstable eruptions. Tower would just in the middle of lave unharmed.

You don't get what i'm saying. No, the peak did not go off in my Dragonlance. Each person's Dragonlance diverges minorly from the others at certain points. Mine diverges half a year after the War of Souls. KoD and SoS are not happening for me, along with the volcano becoming mostly dormant. If i planned to run a Desolation adventure with nothing to do with any of them, should i get KoD, With it's cost, just for information on the Desolation to do a campaign that has nothing to do with KoD exept also being set in the Desolation.

Ok - I was just thinking if you wanna go with "official" way, but everyone makes this his/her own world offcourse.

Still, I think KoD gives good ideas, background, and maybe even adventure ideas for your history/direction too. Also in SoS there will be more info about Tears of Mishakal. That actually gives VERY good idea how to be undoing the Desolation. You may have own plans about that, but Tears present interesting possibilities. But we still don't know much about their powers yet (until SoS comes out).

From what little I read I thought the Tears of Mishakal were going to be used to put the undead to rest and for defeating the lich that was unleashed in KoD. Those found in the betrayed temple area (forgot what it's name was but it's the same one used in KoD) so it doesn't seem like they'll be used for curing the desolation. Could be wrong though, we'll see when it comes out.

*Spoilers*

I also think its going to be used to cure the elves in Pashin as well.

My guess is that ultimately, the quest will result in finding a new home for the elves, but I don't have anything to back that up, other than a hunch. That alone would have a big effect on the world.

As to if the KoD would be a good reference for a foray into the desolation. It comes complete with encounter tables for the desolation and surrounding areas, natural dangers, flora and fauna, as well as maps of the desolation, Kendermore and the Peak of Malys. Also interesting stats for an area surrounding Kendermore known as the crags. For the desolation, this is an indispensable resource IMHO.

It also has some nice information for the Bay of Balifor and another town (at school right now)
