When going over the Key of Destiny adventure, I found that the adventure doesnt actually give a point where an aspiring Knight can take their trial. I know that the Knight in Port Balifor gives an oppurtune moment to gain a supporter to become a knight, but when can a PC actually become one.

My main question really is, At what level is it possible for a PC to start taking levels in the Knight of the Crown?

So far, I have been thinking about having a secret group of Knights that would be adequate enough to take his trial and start taking levels in the PrC.

What do you think?

I guess Clandestine circle would be perfect for this. Auchuran could be circles leader. And when candidate has been presented to circle and also characters "holy" mission is revealed to circle then the test can actually be to finish KoD and retrieve some artifact (I'm not saying here what awaits, but all you know...).

SO - after character have been proved by knights he can start taking levels.

In my game two player characters started as solamnic squires who were in training mission working as clandestine service on KoD region (Pashin, Khur, Desolation). This, like all know, would be very dangerous, so it would be their test also. And about time they were in Port Balifor they test was done and I let them start taking levels as knights when they had meeting with Auchuran who was very pleased for their report.

When this mission starts to expand, as KoD goes to SoS, I just rule that they can take Sword levels advancing freely. I just direct them to meeting with knight counsil somewhere during the adventure and then they OFFICIAL rise in ranks.

Thats pretty much how I handled the two squires in my KoD campaign. I bent the requirements a bit and already had that they were accepted at the last Knightly council and could gain levels in KoC. However they will still need to fulfill the requirement of KoS as normal.

In my campaign, the Knight aspairant is starting off as a squire. The elves have officially petitioned for assistance and this squire has been sent to preliminarily asses the situation...so that's why he's in Pashin.

Now, depending on his level, there will be enough knights in either Ak-Khuriman or Port Balifor for him to take his first level in Crown Knight...or if he's not high enough yet (as he's kind of going the cleric/fighter route) there will perhaps be a circle in Flotsam. We'll see.
