Ok, currently i'm stuck.
My player are average lvl 9. I think I will run Dragon crown adventure, but not now. I want them to be a little higher in level. But for now, I need a short campaign and i'm short on idea. The player became senator in Tyr, and they are now there. We are presently in the year of Dragon agitation (free year 3).

They already killed Kalak, defeated the Urik army, saved Kornugard (Arcane shadow), barrely escaped the dragon levy of Nibenay and did a lot of other thing you can find in this thread: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=223716

As senator, they are trying to impeach Tithian for gaining more political power in Tyr and are allied with Minthur family (who use them as puppet in the senate). They are also ennemy of Nok, Hamanu, the Silverhand tribe, Black sand raider, Clearwater tribe, a bunch of Balician bard and a couple of noble in Tyr.

As for the character, one is a mule gladiator with the Belt of Rank that now run an inn in Tyr and he hate slaver with a passion (and no, as far as its sound, is not a Rikus ripe-off). Another player is an elven psionist/preserver/thief who is on the verge of becoming a defiler, try to stop Tithian and now have a voice in his head that he got in the obsidian plain (I think it will be Rajaat that need to control him so he try to kill the Dragon, I didnt figured this out yet). Another is a female half-elf ranger who oddly became a noble in Tyr and had a bastard spawn with the PC elf. She also in possesion of the Scourge of Rkard, but she dont know it. The last is a thri-kreen female water cleric that have nothing in particular except she like to hunt :D .

They already explored Tyr,Urik,Nibenay, the dragon bowl, smoking crown, the forest ridge, the riggin mountain, Kemalok and Kalidnay ruin and the obsidian plain, so I prefer idea that dont envolve theses places except maybe the city-state.

So if you have idea, please share them.

I've found that once players reach these levels (8+) they become harder to defeat with combat (and that's not really the point, anyway). One idea is to have a rival Senator that's trying to move up the ladder. What if they were to run afoul of Rikus, Sadira, or Tithian and they have to clear their name? A good mystery/thinking adventure before they plunge into the chaos that is Dragon's Crown.

Perhaps it is time to consider bring back an old enemy or enemies which has found more powerful allies. I like to head out to Ur Draxa and the surrounding area about this time in a campaign.

For Ur-draxa, I wait till they got level 15 and more. That in a couple of year.

This is what I plan to do;

1. The campaign you give idea here

2. Dragon crown

3. Search for a way to get ride of the dragon

4. Valley of dust and fire

5. Get there ass kicked by the dragon

6. Retry

Perhaps the PCs need to start searching for a way to get rid of the dragon now?

This adventure will ultimately not find a way to kill the dragon, but perhaps it uncovers a few important clues, like the importance of the Pristine Tower, the existence of the Obsidian Oracle etc.

The idea being that the PCs learn of something useful, but then the Dragon's Crown events take place that interupt their plans for further investigation. Once that is dealt with, the PCs already have motivation to continue searching for a means to kill the Dragon.

Given that a lot of your adventures seem to be action based, a mystery/political intrigue based adventure might be out of place with your overal story arc. However, at the levels the PCs are, this sort of thing could also be very appropriate.

The best way to do these is to give the PCs an important decision to make, but have bad things happen either way. That is, make the PCs decide between the lesser of two evils. For this to work however, the PCs need to have some sort of emotional attachment to the subject.

hope something here helps spark an idea for you.

I'd try to run something that would include Sacha and Wyan. Maybe they could manipulate the PC's in trying to free Rajaat or trying to have them contact a being that could. Irikos maybe?

Just my two bits.

Your wrong. My game are role-playing and mystery based. We are average 25 yo so, fighting is just a side part. My player say Im the best Dm they encountered yet. :D

I have all my campaign in word format, if someone want to see it.But they are in french

We once played a whole game (8 hour straight) at the senate where Tithian and some other powerfull noble like Minthur and Tyrthani tried to pass law that would boost there power and the PC had to stop them (they are now senator). At the end, they managed to make magic acceptable in Tyr when you have a King certificate to use magic. Oh, sacha and Wyans are also in the senate posing as templar. They are in a big robe that they make float with psionic. The PC dont know yet who they are. They think they are just normal templar. Since they are both powerfull psionic, they control some of the weaker senator like puppet. One of them lost his daughter to some elven tribe, and he lost his mind cause of this. The PC need to recover the daughter so he can retreive his personality.

It was one of the best game we played.

Anyway, thank for your contribution.

As for this
Or everyone's favorite Arena Necromancer Dote Mal Payne; have him trick the PCs into bringing (almost?) back Kalak. The world could always use more SKs.

Who is Dote Mal Payne (wich source book, I have all of them)?

I finally found an idea. I think the PC need a little fledging. I will capture them by urikite force and get them back into slavery in the obsidian carry. It will be a ``Freedom`` like game, where they will have quota to meet each day (retreiving one ton of obsidian each day or you dont get water).

The only problem is my psionist PC who now have Psychoportive science and the cleric. I can get ride of her Holy symbol, but she can gate water.

Also, Im toying with an idea involving sacha and wayans. I think they will try to convince the PC to kidnappe Siemouk (the templar girl who control Nibenay animalistic phase) so Nibenay loose his mind and go in a rampage.

But at the same time, I convinced my PC that Nibenay dont exist in my campaign and that his dead and the templar rull at his place (that why we never see him). In fact, that false, Nibenay his still alive in his Nagaramakam doing I dont know what. I dont want to ruin that feel of the PC finally believing Nibenay is dead. I think its cool.

Thinking about Nibenay, anyone have an idea on what he found in his Nagaramakam to have legion of slave-scrib?

Dote Mal Payne was a Court Defiler under Kalak. Currently he's in hiding, plotting his revenge.

I believe he's mentioned in several books, including the Revised Campaign Setting...but don't hold me to it.

So your players think Nibenay is actually dead?! How did you get them to believe you?

Being Tyrian dignitaries and close to level 10, your PCs are in good shape for Dragon Crown. Things will particularly interesting if you replace Thovadarak (the templar commander of the Urikite strike team) with that Yuan-ti templar villain your PCs hate (Lubar, right?).

Unfortunatly Lubar is dead.

We played Arcane shadow and I replaced the templar there with Lubar. They managed to kill him even if I tried to save him for Dragon crown. His also hard to raise back from the dead since one of the PC cutted his head and bringed it with him.

As for Nibenay, onlthree PC think is really dead. These three are not familiar with Dark sun world. All the thing they know, they learned it during the game. They only read the Dark sun player book. They never cheked Wanderer journal or wanderer chronicle.

So its easy to make them believe Nibenay is dead.

For Wayans, a good use is to have him get a job at a casino. That way, when the PCs break through the wall into the vault, he can cover up the wall with bricks and plaster. The money will "disappear."

I've also seen Wayans end up in a prison for drugs; maybe the PCs can rescue him from the prison?

I did something similar to this in my old 2E DS campaign. I had Dregoth's minions kidnap Siemouk shortly after Nibnay had finished the next level of his metamorphosis. Nib's went on a killing spree which ravaged most of his own city-state.

I tend to agree with Lurking Shadow on this one: if they're tenth level, they're ready. By the time they cross that threshhold (and they will during the course of the adventure), they'll be just powerful enough to face the challenges at the end. My suggestion is wrap a few adventures in between the books (small ones). Gith swarms taking advantage of null psionics in the city-states, etc.

Your wrong. My game are role-playing and mystery based. We are average 25 yo so, fighting is just a side part. My player say Im the best Dm they encountered yet.

Good deal - I turn 30 in June, so I know where you stand with that.

Thinking about Nibenay, anyone have an idea on what he found in his Nagaramakam to have legion of slave-scrib?

He's looking for a way around dragon-rage in the later stages of his advancement (hence the reason for Siemouk).

Sorry for my bad english, its not my language.

Have you looked at message boards lately? As long as you aren't substituting numbers for letters, typing in d00d and 1337 and ROTFLMAOBBQS, you're okay in my book.

Now I have a question about this (thought-provoking, I already have an answer I'm using with my players): Borys - went crazy; Dregoth - did not. Is going step-by-step safer than doing it all in one jump (like Borys, Kalak, and Kalid-Ma)?

Inconsistencies?

Ya,I already tough of that. My player that know Dark sun a lot gave me a good idea about that. And to make it happens, I had to change the cannon a little.

Its not perfect and done, but its a start.

I think I will have a different story about dregoth, and in the end, its more cool.

Dregoth managed with some psionic science to keep is insanity even if he had a lot fo pain. Sometime, he had a surge of bad temper (killing alot of his servant) He had to stay in his throne to control his rage while thinking about a way to become a god. Since is like frustrated cause of all the pain he must endure, he his 10 time more mean and bad and evil than all the other sorcerer king. When he got killed and brought back to undead state (that where it get interesting) he was even more mad.

Imagine, being in the pain of a animalistic stage forever (Undead)
There something mean and cool about it that make the most evil sorcerer-dragon ever.

Now, I must find a reason why he managed to keep his mind, and why he continue to have pain even if he his undead. Maybe the pain is also emotionnal.

Ya I know, there big holein this story and it dont make sense. Its just a little idea I toy with.

I cant run Dragon crown yet cause we are at the beginning of free year 3, and I want to play dragon crown on free year 4 (Moutain something).

So I think I will go ahead with the pc being captured and bring back to slavery. But I need good way to block the teleport of myy PC. Other than the usuall, you have a necklace that you cant remove or the cerebral parasyte.

As for dragon crown. I think I will remove the black sand raider camp and replace it with the Pc having to get into either the nagaramakam or the golden tower to search there library. They will stumble across the scroll that talk about the psionatrix.

I plan to rfemove the game in the Urik arena and replace it with the real Urik arena (from gladiator handbook) and the PC will have to fight bare naked and with no weapons three Raakles (I love those bird).

The giant will not have wolf head. I found it silly to have wolf head and no wolfves.

What else you recommand I change?

Psionic parasites would be pretty common in the slave pens. Another option is to let the PC teleport out and run a separate adventure for them that both let's the other PCs escape and builds towards Dragon Crown.

I want the PC stuck in the obsidian quarry as slave, and they must escape using role-play and there skill, not cheaply teleporting away.

Invent some kind of magic items then that restrain or restrict the powers that you don't want the PCs using; a collar of restraint that blocks said powers. If its something the guards are well aware of, they'd likely keep a much closer eye on the PC wearing it to make sure they don't try and take it off. For teleports, a nice little gem I heard about from another DM was a 'Redirection Sphere'. It basically caused anyone within range (altering the range to suite the adventure's needs) who attempted to cast a teleport spell to appear beside the Sphere instead. The sphere was located about 30' off the ground, suspended by a chain to the ceiling, and in a sturdy jail cell. The innitial fall of 30' would be enough to alert the guards that the cell had a new spellcasting occupant and to take appropriate measures. I'm pretty sure the DM used it as a defensive measure for a faerie elven keep, but it could work quite well as a psionic orb ala MotLS with a radius great enough to cover the work area of the quarry.

Templar would not waste magic item on slave of Makla.

The way I play the obsidian quarries, a slave lifespan is 1 year. You are either a breaker or a remover. the braker hack away with metal pick on the obsidian to remove big chunk, the remover take each chunk and transport it to the loading place. When you are a remover, you must make a dexterity chek each time or you suffer 1d6 points of damage. When you are a breaker, since you are close to the obsidian, its really hot (the sun reflect on it)
and you must drink the double ammount of water than normally. Each day you receive the strict minimum of water you need, but if you didnt get your quota of 1000 lbs of obsidian, you dont get water or food and must work until you have made your quota. So that make a death rate really high. Also, the PC will have different way to get food and water, like blackmailing, stealing etc. And they will have to escape but without magic and teleport psionic.

Its kind like freedom adventure, but with my touch added.

I found a good idea to block psionic character.

I'll invent a insect creature 1 inch long that enter under your skin and go straight for the brain sucking all the pfp. Kind like the one in Merchant house of amketch, but better, and created by Hamanu himself.

I've got stats of 2e creature called a "mind beetle" that I printed from off the net years ago.

It basically attached itself to the back of a humaniod's neck and any time they attempted to use powers points (psp back then) the beetle would cause the manifester tremendous amounts of pain disrupting the power. Slave owners and templars used "beetle whistles" which would automatically cause it to inflict pain on the slave/host. The only way to remove the beetle was with a special tool. If the beetle's victim tried and sucessfuly removed the bug without the tool it caused permanent Constitution loss.

I could try and dig them up if your interested.

How about non-magical means. What if the characters are kept in different parts of the slave pens, and forced to work in different work parties. They are told that if one tries to escape the others will be executed. So if the psionist teleports away, he dooms the rest of the party.

Or better, have the templars for the psionist to use his psionic powers for work. I don’t know what all his powers are, but the templars could find some job that will require the psionist to use his powers all day long, thus exhausting him. The cramped living conditions, (the cells are so crowded people have to take turns lying on the ground to sleep because there is not enough room, so he only gets 2-4 hours sleep a day) and the lack of food and water prevent the psionist from ever recovering enough power to escape.

This way the party may still come up with a way to use their skills, but they will have to be ingenious. Can the psionist get his work done without using all his powers so that he has some left to escape, or does the party find another way. You make using their powers harder, but to forbid it completely.

If you are still looking for other ideas, have you thought of Black Spine. The characters sound about the right level for that adventure. Or adapt Tryean Conspiracy into a higher level adventure.

If not those how about this scenario. Wyan wants the characters out of Tyr, so he arranges for a delegation be sent to Balic to try to form some sort of alliance incase Hamanu tries to invade again. He gets the party appointed as the delegation. Wyan does not think this will be successful, but the party will be gone from Tyr for months during the negotiations.
Traveling to Balic, the party runs right into the beginning of the peninsula war with the giants. You could have a couple of encounters with the characters fighting off giants, protecting small villages, etc.
Then Wyan learns of the war. He contacts a tribe of giants and tells them that the characters are dangerous. Maybe a hit squad to kill the giants or maybe he says they are responsible for helping the Balicans. So the tribe of giants captures the party and brings them to their island in the silt sea. The characters are held by the giants only to prevent them from interfering in the war. The giants allow the party to move around the island and not lock them up in a cage (Think The Last Samurai). Now the party can interact with the giants, and the giants can learn about them.
The characters may be able to learn why the war started and try to negotiate with the giants. Maybe they ally Tyr with the giants against Balic. Maybe they threaten that Tyr will come to Balic’s aid if the giants do not end the war. It all depends on what you as the DM decide was the cause of the war in the first place.
In the end the negotiations could break down and the party is forced to try to escape.

The thing with Dregoth not going crazy wasn't an inconsistency, it was dark sun irony. Borys went mad, destroying stuff. Dregoth, who was just about ready to complete the process and would have been a good foil to Borys (maybe even been able to stop him), had managed to stave off insanity and, had he not been killed, would have managed to never have gone mad. If you remember in 2E there was a saving throw to be made to not go into the animalistic rages. Dregoth was just that cool and in control.

As for things to do, a possibility would be to hunt down ex-templars of tyr who ran off with things from kalak's treasury. In my game I had two templars that did this: one was Templar Rhac from road to urik (who escaped and defected to urik), and another was the templar hanging out at outpost zero in dragon's crown. That's how i introduced the orbs of kalid-ma and the silencer, both of which kalak had been holding on to.

I dont like both of these adventure.

I finally found my Idea. It's actually a little rip-of (Dark sun shattered land computer game) but I dont care, its a good idea.
It will be as follow (hope my player dont come here, they usually dont).

Androponis will ask steel to Tyr in exchange of gold (from Walis). Tithian fear that this steel will serve to forge weapons to equip Balician army and then conquer Tyr. At the same time, I must, as Tithian, get ride of the PC cause they are became really dangerous at the Senate (I kinda lost control on them), one of the PC even managed to make magic accepted (long story).
So Tithian feel an opportunity to make two victory with one. He will order the PC to go to Balic with the shipment of steel (the largest Tyr ever delivered) so they can guard it en-route and then, see what is the intention of Androponis. En route, they will be attacked by an old ennemies of the PC, the Clearwater tribe.

Anyway, after that, they will be greeted in the White palace of Andro.Meet the sorcerer-king (I think the TSR Androponis kind of suck, my androponis is not canon. He will be Greek inspiration (as in canon, Balic is Athene), but more mean and kick ass and I think it will be an old men like Kalak ).
During the night, I will lure one of the pc outside his assigned bedroom, and he will surprise two templar talking about the army of Balic that will march on the village of the peninsula, cause Balic this year have a short supply of slave to feed the Dragon. So the Pc will go outside the city trying to unite all the village (three hidden slave village as Grak pool and Leopoldus south).
Then, I will inspire from Black spine for the army build up (with the skeleton of a sylk wyrm in the silt to make bone weapons).
Followed with a big battle in the desert on the approching Balic army.

If the PC won, an old men, like prophecy or something will ask the PC to go in the Giant island to negotiate so the giant attack Balic, forcing Androponis to call back his troop to defend the city.

What do you think?

I'm thinking even a final battle with Androponis. Of course, the sorcerer-monarch will win.

A face off with Andy in the desert? That's interesting. Personally, it would be tough to get an army from Balic to Tyr, but with SK in Tyr, it would probably be worth the risk. Might be an idea to just have the PCs reek havoc on the Balician supply trains - an army that big on the move that far would have serious logistic problems. Of course, with Andy in the lead...yeah, the PCs won't win that one. Good idea, might steal it, myself.

So, my player will have to fight in the Criterion (Balic arena) to prove there courage so Androponis accept to meet them.

I'm thinking doing something like the drawing in the Dark sun old player hand book, with the two gladiator with bone dagger attached together and fighting three braxat.

What i'm thinking is having the 4 PC fighting naked (like in ancient greece olympic game) in matched pair (with there wrist attached together with giant hair rope) and I need nasty fighting beat to maul. I want to kick there ass pretty badly, but I want them to have a chance to win.

So what do you suggest for monster?

They are average lvl 10. One his a psionist that can teleport and blink everywhere. They will have no weapons except cheap stonny dagger (Androponis want them dead). Braxat are too tough, so I need something else. For now, its either Raakles, Gaj or Tagster.

Two Gaj.

And I invented a system for the big pillar of the Criterion. You know, these pillar I can level up or down using a Psionist-templar.

So they will have to fight two Gaj naked with only stone dagger, with there wrist attached together and each round, I will roll as follow.

1. One pillar goes-up 1d4 meter under the Pc, he must roll a dexterity chek or fall.
2. One pillar goes-up 1d4 meter under a Gaj, the Gaj can now jump on the PC
3. 4 pillars goes-up 1d4 meter in front(1-2) or behind (3-4) one of the PC, making a wall to cut retreat.
4. 2d6 pillar goes-up each side of the PC making an alley.
5. One pillar goes down 1d4 meter under the PC, he now must climb to get out of the pit.
6-8. Nothing happens.

Also, at the center of the Arena, there will be a big pillar leveled up with a steel impaler on top of it. They will have to climb it to get the weapons. But I want to toy with them pulling other pillar up and down as they try to reach the impaler.

Gaj will also try to dominate one of the PC to make him fight the other. Since one of the PC is a psionist, that will make good psionist battle.

Ya I know, Gak are almost immune to non-metal weapons. That why it get interesting. My player will have to use there brain. They can be pretty ressourcfull when they fight. I'm sure they will hang my Gaj with the rope that attach there wrist together or something similar. :D

As for the rest of this campaign, they will have to unite all village of the peninsula (Grak pool, Leopoldus + 3 slave village I made) to fight Balician army. I plan to use the first half of Black spine for idea. Like the gearing up part. They will have to take a Sylk worm for the bone, raid a Gulg caravane for wooden pole and clean up an Antloid nest for the armor, siege Fort Glanis to get some extra weapons. Each village will also be hard to get, and they will have to accomplish some sub-quest for this. Finally, when there army will be completed, they will have to make a battle plan and move on to meet the balician army. I plan to have a tribe of Belgoi to follow the PC army and kidnappe some of the soldier during the night, just to make some difficulties. A spy from Balic will also ruin the water of the army. Then it will climax with the big battle at the end. The PC, of course, will be defeated, and there army scattered troughout the desert.
The PC will have to figure a way to save what can be saved. I will put some hint that lead to contact the Giant of Dragon palate and convince them to attack Balic to create a diversion and sack Balic. Since I know my player very well, i'm sure they will pull a Rikus by trying to free all Balic slave (they never read Crimson legion, but as I know them, they will do the same, they are too confident). So it will be the perfect time to show them there limit. I cant wait to have Androponis levitating in the air and casting a wall of ash (10th level) on the advancing wadding Giant and PC.

I think it will be very interesting. I can make this in 3 (8 hours) game.

But its not for this week. This week, they will have to go back into slavery. Since they are presently trying to search for the Pristine tower, they learned that a slave in the obsidian quarries of Makla know where that tower is. So they will have to pass as slave and infiltrate the quarries. It will be very difficult to find the guy, and they will have to work hard. I plan to have Hamanu put ward and powerfull enchantment on Makla to prevent Psychoportative science and Elemental magic (except for his templar. )

Last game was pretty fun too. If you already read my other thread of my campain (Verdant passage)One of my player (the half-elf (played by a girl)) got pregnant from the PC elf. One of the vilain (Leornis, elf defiler famed to have ****** off the PC a lot of time and managed to escape everytime) kidnapped that baby and asked a ransom on the PC. They had to steal a rod of metal detection from a nobel and bring it to Leornis in KALIDNAY. The mother (the PC half-elf) got one time ambushed alone by Leornis and his elfe, and I beated the **** outta her. I tortured her during 1 hour (actual time, in game term it was one complet night). She wanted to keep all her secret, so I had to maul her PC pretty hard so she can agree to talk. Basicly, she ended having all her finger cut-off and one eye popped out, and badly burned. The baby got some slashing too. Leornis cutted the baby tongue, ear and nose (Imagine doing that in a movie...).

So my player were pretty angry at me and my NPC elf, lol. The look on there face was priceless. After that, they had to chase Leornis and his men (15 elf) in the desert. They ended up in Kalidnay and there was a big battle on the Kalidnay ziggourat and ruined arena (I used map from Merchant house of amketch). They saved there baby, Leornis managed to escape (they are pretty mad at him, one of the PC want to exterminate all the Clearwater elves (Leonis tribe)) . It was pretty fun, except that my player are mad at me since the baby have no more tongue, ear and nose and the half-elf ranger dont have finger (she cant hold a weapons, she's stock using wrist razor) and she miss an eye. She now have an eye patch :D
