Does anybody know where to get information on the Star Rock emplacement. Its on the revised boxed set map of the Jagged Cliffs Region south of Thamasku, but I can't find any description for it in the books. Thanks.

The Star Rock is a giant stone that fell from the heavens ages ago. Legends claim it is a fallen star, for it fell on the same night that a bright star flashed and vanished from the heavens in a streak of silver light that fell towards the horizon. Many wise clerics followed this sign and made a pilgrimage towards the site of the fallen star.

The rock is obviously not of local origin, having glittering crystalline structures running through its dark composite. The natives of the area believe the rock has "mystical powers", and the brave (or foolish) often quarry a piece or two from it for use in building or the creation of small charms, hoping to gain some luck or a blessing from it. It should be noted that the Rock is /huge/, explaining why it has not been mined entirely away over the centuries.

There is also a large shrine to the element of Earth located near the rock, but not too close! -- strange monsters and powerful Earth-spirits roam the area near the rock, including at least one elemental drake.

The clerics of the Shrine believe the rock to be a piece of holy elemental earth, one of the glittering crystals of the void above (which is what they believe the stars to be), sent to them by the elements as a sign of their favor. They sell amulets made from pieces of its substance to pilgrims and traders (who then sell them in cities of the Tyr valley as exotic jewelry), and otherwise spend their time praying and communing with the elemental spirits of the Rock.

(Actually, I just made all that up.)

Could have a guardian spirit similar to the creature from the 'colour out of space' by lovecraft. Changes the region around the rock, and weakens anyone who stays near it (hello fortitude saves).
any excuse to squeeze things-that-should-not-be into Athas. :D

Actually, I think its one of the load stones that used to keep the halfling spaceship within the atmosphere while giant flying constructs were used to lift lifeshaping equipment and genetic arks into the ship in prevision of its long voyage through time.
When the time came to depart, they ditched this stone and others, floating free.
