In particular, have there been any concepts that you have felt have been especially useful for incorporating into your 2nd ed game? I've been very interested in the thematic concept of the "Points of Light" as it exactly describes the sort of feel that I want for the Dalelands in my FR game. I've often had my players, who want internal consistency in the game-world, ask "but why didn't we hear about this? They're only half a days ride away!" We discussed this idea when it was first articulated and it mirrored the ideas I'd been trying to embed in the game. I'll talk about the ideas I've been attracted too as the conversation progresses. Hope to read your thoughts soon. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : GoriceXII Date : 12-07-07 10:28 AM Thread Title : Re: 4th ed I am interested in it especially in that I was already doing the "points of light" concept about a year and a half ago when I started my present 2E campaign. A few ideas I had regarding this: 1. Areas that are not really adventure friendly are either desolate or very civilized. 2. Magic certainly exists and is known to exist but normal people, in particular people in peaceful areas, know very little about it and have probably never seen powerful magic or magical items. 3. I limited the number of races and monsters that are known to exist. 4. The pcs' careers are marked by a rise in challenges as evil powers threaten. Essentially they really are among a small number of real heroes who are striving to battle evil. There are also evil champions of course. 5. Magical items tend to come from a few different sources: - relics found in ancient ruins - items crafted by powerful wizards/clerics etc - gifts granted by supernatural beings or gods - relics whose uses were forgotten or perhaps remembered by only a few held as special treasures by royalty and the like. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Varl Date : 12-07-07 01:40 PM Thread Title : Re: 4th ed I have been following the fourth edition development information with great interest and was wondering whether the rest of you have as well. I don't know enough about 4e to determine if any of it will be ported back into my 2e game. The 'points of light' concept is intriguing, but technically, I've always had it. It's not really a new concept unless there's more to it than what I've heard so far. Most of the mechanics of 4e are probably right out, as they were with 3e. So, in all likeihood, the only things that I might port over from 4e would be new spells, psionic powers, magic items, and/or monsters. Some of the same things I'm porting over now from 3e. I've become quite burned out on all the 4e speculations, and frankly, I'm not the least bit interested any more in whole new editions. I see them as money grabs with just enough cosmetic or mechanical changes to interest the sheeple to buy in yet again. And again. And again. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Extempus Date : 12-07-07 08:00 PM Thread Title : Re: 4th ed I've become quite burned out on all the 4e speculations, and frankly, I'm not the least bit interested any more in whole new editions. I thought they were interested in the gamers and were not trying to con them out of their hard-earned money with three editions in less than a decade... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Handsome Stranger Date : 12-09-07 03:56 PM Thread Title : Re: 4th ed The only speculation I've been doing about the alleged 4th edition is fairly idle, as I'll never play it. Still, I can't help but wonder if Wizbro has finally started playtesting games. You want to steal ideas? There are any number of games which provide rich fodder for an AD&D game. T&T, BECMI, C&C, LA, Thieves' Guild (good luck finding that one), any wild west game, a few space games, etc. all are useful. Don't overlook Hollywood, either. Never mind the fantasy stuff, take a look at Where Eagles Dare, for example. Good luck, -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:22 AM.
