Thread Title : 'King' Of The Darine In Karameikos

Has anybody ever intruduced a 'King Of the Gypsies' type character in their campaigns?

I'm thinking of having allowing a P.C to be a 'Prince' of the Vistani clan of the Darine, coming from the Molotov family, a prominent sub-clan. The rest of his sub-clan are currently prisoners of Baron Von Hendricks, having wandered into the Halag area soon after he took power. The P.C was born in captivity, son of the 'King' of the Vistani. 

He recently fled the Barony after his fathers death and his goal in life is to free his people from the clutches of the Baron and be crowned 'king' by the tribe. To this end he has taken up company with a band of adventurers to sharpen his skills in stealth and combat until the time is right to wreak vengeance upon Baron Von Hendricks.

Sounds like a good plot for a campaign! Perhaps you could involve the Artho or Suslova clans as well (from http://www.pandius.com/tralclan.html ) they would make good potential allies in the fight against the Baron, while not being entirely sympathetic to the Darine...

Interesting plot idea! I really like the Darine and the idea of a Darine King has alot of story potential. 

One thing I like about Gypsies in fantasy worlds is their connection to a mystical world. Perhaps this Gyspy clan has taken upon itself some mystical responsibilities, such as warding off evil forces, perhaps leading back to Taymora? As the clan is now broken, the prince will be the one having to deal with that. Does the clan have ancient enemies or rivals? Again, these are things you can throw at the party. 

Also, allowing one PC to have such an important role, you should consider what to give the other players so they dont feel their characters are sidelined by this one.

Well to be fair I would advise the character not to persue his dream of revenge until he's mid to high level, that gives the party plenty of opportunities to follow different paths for the moment. Also, at the speed we play (and subsequently slow character advancement) that will probably be a couple of real time years!
