This is the first time I've ever "DM"d a campaign besides my own homebrew world. The only ravenloft books I've read are the two "I, Strahd" books. I'm very interested in how Barovia is in "Modern Day" Ravenloft (Mainly because that's where the party is currently), and I'm also kind of hoping to know how the war against Azalin turned out (The end of the "I, Strahd, the War Against Azalin" was kind of a rotten cliffhanger.)

What books would you reccomend me?

The current state of ravenloft (a realm not changing that much through time, by the way) is found in the Ravenloft Gazetteer 1.

If you want a Barovia Background in what you can make your PC play, the Gazetter one is the best reference.

If you want a novel that detail you the after war, i don t really know them, but im sure they are others on these board that can help you.

If you are looking for more to flesh out Barovia as was already pointed out Gaz I is the first place I’d look.

As for other reading there are of course the two I, Strahd books then there is also “Vampires of the Mists” and “Knights of the Black Rose” both of which also feature our favorite vampire. I haven’t read Tales of Ravenloft but I understand it also has a story dealing with Strahd and Barovia. I haven’t read many of the other books yet so maybe someone else can point out the ones I’m missing that deal with Barovia.

Also if you can get your hands on I6 Ravenloft it has some great maps of castle Ravenloft. Ravenloft II House on Griffin Hill is a free download so I’d even consider checking that one as well. Then there are the last two adventures of the Grand Conjunction, which ties back to Barovia and Strahd. I can’t think off the top of my head any others that deal in Barovia.

You can sometimes find some cheap deals on Ravenloft stuff on ebay but be warned if you out bid me on any of the books I’m trying to get I’ll come through the mists and haunt you forever!

One other thing you might want to try is to look on some of the file sharing networks like Bearshare. Occasionally you’ll find custom made adventures or guides people have put together. I haven’t been able to find any 3e adventures yet but I have found some conversion guides people put together to convert the old 2e mods to 3e.

Legacy of the Blood has also a few feats, PrC, etc.. all tied to the darklord of Barovia (among others).

This should be revealed in Azalin`s history and Darkon lore, right guys?
So perhaps the Gazetteer that has Darkon in it, or perhaps the generel Ravenloft history overview in the RL cmapaign book or RLPHB or perhaps the 2E Domains of Dread even?

There`s some freebies on the S&S page, incl. a general intro for Barovia:

Although not a Ravenloft book, I'd recommend reading Nightmares of Mine (released by I.C.E and Chaosium). It's a fantastic source of advice on how to effectively plan and run a horror-based game.

Where do I get old adventures like this one? What is I6? Is it a name, or a product number, or something?

Is the gazzeteer somewhere online, or is it a book?

Thank you for your help so far.

In the old days (god, I can't be that old yet! ), adventure modules were "tagged" with a combo of letter(s) and number to show they were part of a series. Generally, modules of the same series would be played in the order they were published, each one linked to the one before and the one after. There were a few notable exceptions though, such as the "I" series.

I6 Ravenloft was the module that started it all. Originally a single adventure in which foreigners had to fight a vampire lord in a spooky castle, it was so successful that they published a sequel (I10 The House on Griffon Hill) and, later, turned it into the Ravenloft setting.

I10 as well as the modules of the Great Conjunction story-arc can still be downloaded for free on the D&D website of WotC (look in the Download section).

Other "old" RL adventures can be bought on eBay or, if you like .pdf files, downloaded from sites such as RPGNow or SVGames.

The Gazetteer series (I to V currently) is a relatively recent addition to the setting thanks to the 3.X edition (Gaz I - III are 3.0, IV to V are 3.5 IIRC). Arthaus (Sword & Sorcery) is now the publisher for the whole 3.X Ravenloft line of products which has raised from the dead a setting that had been gathering dust since the fall of the 2E (and TSR).

The Gazetteers are books that describe in great details the different domains of Ravenloft. With the 5th, they just finished up the Core. From the 4th onward, they can be downloaded as .pdf (if you so desire and are willing to pay) from the DrivethruRPG site.
