Going beyond "mancy" sorcery

We all know that the backstory of sorcery was that it was learned from dragons, involves "ambient magic" and in the 5th Age was subdivided the sorcery into things like "pyromancy, cryomancy, enchantment" et al.

However, what if that classification of magic was wrong? I noticed that the 5th Age fans didn't get too upset at the idea of "knot magic" which certainly wasn't part of the way things worked in SAGA.

So taking the assumption that WoHS magic is a nice, solid, magical tradition of books, incantations, and ritual... we could make sorcery the grab bag for everything else.

1) Knot Magic - From the Tarmak (feat, use rope skill)
2) Rune Magic - For divination and enchantment, legacy of the dwarf scions (feat, rune of power)
3) Blood Magic - a more primitive form of necromancy
4) Demonic and other extraplanar pacts - Demons just wanna have fun
5) Chaos Magic - Entropy and madness magic
6) Elemental Magic - Citadel of Light tradition

Plus whatever new stuff we come up with. What this does is open up a whole bunch of interest in the one thing that Dragonlance has a lot of, namely ruins. I'm wondering if there is interest in a sorcerer who is interested in ressurecting these ancient magics from the past (Irda civilizations, Kal Thax, barbarian and goblinoid shamans, etc).

Basically, I want to change the take of "Like wizards only they cast their magic differently" to "dabblers in that which could confer great power, but perhaps is better left alone". In other words bringing renegades and sorcerers together a little closer.

The thing that comes immediately to mind is the nature magic of the Cha'asi, which always struck me as the essence of ambient magic. As you recall, they used special natural materials to make magic; for instance, a lightning struck branch would be drawn out of to create a wand of lightning, or a particularly twisted vine for an entangling spell. A really pretty rock worn into a neat shape by a river could be used for Create Water, etc.

cha'asi magic has a lot of potential coolness as an aspect of sorc/mysticism.

Indeed, i think that fifth age magic could thrive on Taladas like nowhere else, simply due to the sheer lack of structure there.
