Karen Wynn Fonstad passed away Friday, March 11, 2005, from complications from breast cancer.

Dragonlance fans will remember her cartography from such products as Dragonlance Adventures and Tales of the Lance, although she is perhaps best remembered for The Atlas of the Dragonlance World.

Karen is also known for other atlases, including ones for the Forgotten Realms, Pern, and Middle-Earth. For more information, please see this article.

Karen's cartography really made Dragonlance and the Forgotten Realms come alive for me. I had picked up the Atlas to Pern, even though I had not read the series yet, simply for her wonderful cartography. Hopefully I can collect my collection soon with the Atlas of Middle Earth and the Atlas of the Land.

My thoughts and prayers are with Karen's family and friends.

yeah, that Atlas of the dragonlance saga really brought the world to life for me. It makes me sad to hear that she lost her battle with cancer... pretty much everyone knows at least someone who has had to fight it...
I think I just might peruse my DL Atlas in rememberance of KWF

Such as Margaret Weis. Margaret is one of the lucky ones, being an 11-year survivor of breast cancer.

I probably will do the same myself.

I peruse mine pretty much every week when I play, it's definately the most used book I've ever bought.

And I didn't know that MW had had cancer, you go Margaret!
