Given the general "low-epic-level" nature of the movers and shakers of the DLCS (what with Fistandantilus being only 22nd level, and Raistlin probably not much more higher than that), what role, if any, do you feel the Epic Level Handbook should play in a Dragonlance game? Should Raistlin and Fistandantilus be epic spellcasters? Should glooms stalk the Abyss, serving Chemosh, and mu spores roam the Forest of Zhan, as the highest servants of Zivilyn? Should truly epic magic items exist, waiting for the right adventuring party to find them?

As for me, I choose to use the "lower end of the epic scale," restricting myself to low DC epic spells (for NPCs like Raistlin and Fistandantilus), "low" CR epic monsters (within the CR21-25 range, and only on the Outer Planes), and reasonable epic magic items, that're rarer than hen's teeth.

Epic Level Dragonlance is something that I have some familiarity with. Sir George the 30th level Knight of Solamnia (we converted him from a Paladin of Paladine), Valance the 26th level Black Robe, and The Chosen of Paladine whose 27th level in our campaigns for example.

Currently we've played every game year from 5 years before the War of the Lance to the Second Cataclysm.

My recommendations for Epic Dragonlance go like this....

1. More interaction with the Abyss and the Gods

There's plenty of nasty creatures in the Abyss from leveled balors to uber-evils that have been sired by Takhasis that will probably start noticing the world because of the presence of people like the PCs. Their plots to destroy Ansalom will probably start cooking the moment they detect the presence of people like the PCs.

Chemosh might start cooking plots with his children and more the Pcs can begin uprooting.

2. Be willing to accomadate the Game world's implications

This rule is largely "If someone is the greatest wizard of all time then you can feel justified in raising his levels a bit"

Also, dead isn't really dead in Dragonlance

Fistandalius may have been 22nd level when he was hobnobbing with the Kingpriest but the Lich might be 39th level or more by the time his dark spirit is a Demilich possessing Raistlin Majere. Raistlin is presumably cooking up plenty of ill news and ill tidings post-his death as well.

Don't be afraid to make use of Dragonlance's bizzare relationship with Death. The Kingpriest and plenty of others might still be garnering levels in their Heavens or past the Gate of Souls....ready to return at the drop of a hat

3. What is dead is not dead and lies sleeping in R'lyeh

Thank you Call of Cthulhu. Basically, don't be afraid to have any number of 'invincible evils' sleeping in Dragonlance's dark depths, waiting to be awakened. The Great Wyrm Prismatic Dragon might actually be the destined ruler of all Dragons and his children are his armies of conquest.

4. There's also other continents to be sources of Evil

The Dragon Overlords supposedly originally came from across the Sea, why not have a Dragon or Epic continent?
