I've been running a Dark Sun game for about a year now. So far all their adventures have been around Balic. Around it but not in it. To date they haven't really spent much time in, or any, in the city. With an upcomming adventure I'm looking to change that.

I'm going to be running Pandemonium in the Veins from Dungeon #96. Seemed like a no brainer actually. Gladiators and Dark Sun go together like penutbutter and chocolate.

Anyway, I'd like to keep them in the city for a while and I'm looking for adventure ideas. Either new ideas or existing adventure, from Dungeon or other sources. Anything that says Dark Sun or is easily adaptable to eventually say Dark Sun. Ideas?

Working for either the templars or veiled alliance is pretty stock. The best way to run these adventures is to make the PCs think they're working for run group when they're actually working for the other.

Come up with some conspiracy / intrigue plot that has nothing to do with the PCs (Templars infiltrating the Veiled Alliance, the VA trying to sabotage something - heck, both). Have the PCs accidentally stumble across one or both parties during their time in the city, in such a way that both parties think the PCs are in the other group.

Let hijinks ensue.

In fact, why not have a plot completely unrelated to the Templars or the VA?

Two rival Schools of the Way have an ongoing feud, with industrial espionage and secret duels. PCs can be hired by either faction, or just accidentally get involved in any number of ways.

Same with Merchant Houses or Noble families.

A love story! A maiden from a Noble house is betrothed to be married to a much older man in an older, more prestigious, but poorer Noble house. But she is in love with a minor member of a Merchant house. PCs could be hired to get her away, keep her from eloping, guard her from the "unwelcome" attentions of the Merchant...

Nasty beasties appear to be inhabiting some uninhabited houses in the beggar's district, driving away the poor residents. Upon investigation, it turns out to be thieves working under the direction of their Noble patron, who is doing some kind of property scam involving old City statutes.

I ran one once where the big shots on the Tyrian council had been replaced by my own brand of Athasian dopplegangers, and the PCs, having already gone through Mystery of the Ancients and having the council's attention, had to sort it all out.

Power struggles between nobles and or between merchant houses.

Rhythams of daily life. It's fight and an adventure just to survive. Characters have to avoid getting robbed, abused by templars, sold into slavery or used in gladitorial games and of course, getting enough to eat and enough water to drink etc.

Cities adventures can turn into wildreness adventures if need be.

Cities mean oppertunity.

As mentioned on another thread: family problems! Inform the PCs that their previously unmentioned brother/sister/cousin/pet kank has been kidnapped/lost/inducted into the Templars...

I had my party stumble across an attempt by a faction of ex-templars of the imprisoned sorcerer king of Balic to reforge a link with him and discover where he was being held in the Black

The next adventure is a heavily modified version of Monte Cook's Bane Warrens which I have located in the bluff under the white palace
