hey everyone, I've been out of circulation for the last fortnight or so - personal matters. Although I can say that I'm now living in New York and working at the UN.

Anyhoo, I don't know what's happening with the Vaults still. I sent an update to Jenni on March 10 and there appears to have been no movement since. It's a huge update, with some interesting stuff and I was hoping it would be up by now. Anyway things are starting to settle down for me now although I still don't have computer access at my new home yet, I am however now trying to chase things up.

Welcome to the western hemisphere, Shawn! And only about a 10 hour drive away, at that! :D

I've been keeping a close eye on the Vaults for an update. I guess I'll just have to keeping watching. Btw, good to hear from you again.

That rocks! So you don't have to pay US income tax now?

So you can park anywhere, anytime, anyhow in New York and not pay your parking tickets under diplomatic immunity, were you to get a car? :P

p.s. each of your posts still say you are located in Canberra as of right now. ;)

Wow, that's a pretty major move! Good luck in your new place. Being somewhat familiar with moving halfway across the world myself, I think I can safely say you're going to have a long series of highs and lows while you get used to living so far from home.

Have fun!

Like Hugin, I have also been keeping a firm eye on the Vaults. ;) Whenever it does get sorted out, please let us know.

Um... I just tried to go to the Vaults and the page is now giving 404 "not there" errors, rather than just failing to get there. Even the main page of the server won't load, instead giving an "Under Construction" message. Has something awful happened??

Wow ! Pretty major move here!

Does it mean you earn money and don't pay taxes to anyone? That's Checkmate to the system, pal! Good move!
Was your wife happy with the relocation?
What's your new job? How did you get it? *hey, you know, sometimes I'm as curious as an old lady* :D

Hope everything goes for the better, and I hope you'll never miss your neighbourhood ;)

Congrats on the move, Shawn. My dad lives near Albany, and makes the trip to Manhattan almost every weekend- he loves it. Got a couple of friends out that way as well, and just about everyone I know who's visited says they love the city, so hopefully you'll have no trouble adjusting. Guess I really need to make it out that way myself soon.

Thorf- if you try the direct link that Shawn posted here once you should be able to get there all right. Then again, I just noticed the indirect link is working again... huh.

Yeah, I usually use that link Shawn posted. But yesterday for a while neither link was working. I don't know what was going on, but it seems to have fixed itself/been fixed now.

yeah I thought you'd be able to appreciate the move Thorf.

yeah I've sent an email to Jenni but have yet to get a response ... once I get a new computer and get settled then I might have to start looking for some sort of alternative, as this is going on a bit too long.

cheers Marco. Well there's no taxes but there are some sort of particular UN dues or something which are under 20% of the total. So yeah it's not all beer and skittles.

A couple of problems with the wife question Marco, not the least of which being that I'm not married.

Basically a similar job as to what I've been doing for the last 3 years. I've been working as part of the Australian submission to the UN for extended continental shelf under the Law of the Sea convention. I'm now working in the division which examines countries submissions. I was over in December with Australia's submission to see that the GIS worked on their systems - later they invited me back to work.

Cheers Marco, I hope that it all goes well too.

Hey! Congratulations, Shawn!!! I remember when you told me you thought you might be going places with your job...looks like you were right! :D

I did my own Mapquest search, and it works out to about 7.5 hours from where I am. Just a stone's throw compared to Canberra! Let us know how things turn out, at any rate!

Good show!

[Thead hijack]That sounds almost the same time it would take from where I am. Does the city of Guelph sound familiar to you?[/Thead hijack]

I passed through Guelph last September while visiting my brother-in-law - he's a reporter in Woodstock. I had a really good time down in your neck of the woods! I'm up in Ottawa, myself.

will do Geoff cheers. Once April is over (that's going to be a busy work month for me) I intend to go travelling on weekends - now that places that I would like to visit are so much closer to me. And yeah parts of Canada are on the list so I might pop in at some stage.

Oh yeah and I've just been in contact with Jenni and the March 10 update should be coming through in the next couple of days. Then'll I'll have to get off my backside and start doing something about the next update as my stuff is still all over the place there.

no not yet, I sent another message to Jenni earlier on in the week and haven't gotten a reply. I think that it's getting safe to assume that this just isn't working. I haven't been able to upload files myself at all during this calendar year and the March 10 update which I provided to Jenni simply isn't eventuating.

I will therefore either be looking into either the offer of another free webspace or failing that I guess that I'll have to look into other options. This process will still take a couple of weeks: I still don't have my own computer over here and so am only getting Internet access that I sneak through at work or elsewhere. In a couple of weeks however I should have some money to rectify that problem, once that's done I can look into uploading the Vaults somewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions on this front?

(oh and once all this happens I can _start_ working on a next update which due to intermittent Internet access hasn't even started at all yet)
