Epic level Campaign Idea

Mar 26, 2005 14:55:18 Ok, I was just looking up some info on red giant stars and on a stars evolutionary cycle and such.. it kinda occured to me, what if another dragon tried to sap life energy from the sun? (dregoth perhaps in a far future attempt to rise in power). Athasian chronology suggests that the sun became red arround the time of the cleansing wars, reflecting the creation of the champions.. it went from blue to yellow to red.. what if the PC's were in contemporary Athas, but were transported to future Athas, (and it takes them a while to figure things out) and in this future, the sun is being slowly killed to fuel a spell by Dregoth in an attempt to absorb all it's energy before hopping into other planes of existence and other worlds.. (why should he care if one world dies if he survives??) And in the process of sapping the star it becomes black, the world becomes dark, cold, everything is dying, undead (and maybe shadows) reign supreme, and the PC's are left to figure out a way to save their world from this future doom, if they had the ability to travel back to contemporary athas, they could put on a battle on two fronts, one with present day Dregoth, and one with Future Dregoth.. (course, future Dregoth would be much tougher and know from experience what their capabilities are.) I figure, toss in some time travel mechanism, a device of Dregoths that they steal from the devastated future to deal with him in the present, a few unique beasts and characters.. some Advanced Dray perhaps.. For an epic level adventure.. it would be interesting to save Athas from an alternate future.. Personally I'd prefer not to use Dregoth as he already has his adventure scenario, but few others could possibly steal from the sun after Hamanu is gone.. (unless you bring him back and he goes berserk :P)

But tell me what you think, an even bleaker future for athas, a black sun, a swiftly dying world (I imagine it windswept constantly with much barren rock, sand, few surface dwellings, a cold atmosphere, a black sun with a white outline to it (so there is some light) imagine it as permanently eclipsed almost) and magic and psionics on a new height where even epic level characters would get stomped if they didn't sneak around.. and then the characters save the present by preventing the future :P

Mar 29, 2005 15:01:31 That's a good idea they could be the perfect police force they sense the danger, can peek a ways into the future, get a forboding sense, and send the PC's there to check it out!

funny that reminds me of dark sun today ^_^ minus temp and black...well, dark, at least sun ;)
