No im not going to call it the Far Side. Its a teaser. Dont want to give too much away :D
From the Journal of the Wanderer:
I had seen the wind swept villages of the halflings, and what i had thought was the Last Sea. And afterwards i returned to the Tableland, to Tyr, my home. I was pleased, freedom still held the people in its shackles of sweetest air. I headed east, to Ledopolus, to Balic. I took sail in a Silt Skimmer from there, looking for the legendary city in the Silt Sea. But as if by the providence of some being greater than the Dragon my ship, the Freedom Sea, was caught in a storm, grabbed by that great Cerulean Storm that was created when time finally caught up with the 13th Champion and his conspirators. For several days we were swept up in the storm, blown in the direction it willed, kept above the everpresent sea by the will of a mindbender who i owe my life, though never to be able to repay her. And then on the 6th day the storm ended. The ship slowed, the sky cleared of silt, and before me i saw blessed land, and no Cleric of the Earth has been so glad to see his master. I stood on the prow of the skimmer, alone as all others huddled below decks, and saw a line of jagged peaks, and at the base of the farthest one, green. Where could i be? We were stranded now that our Mindbender had been shattered by the falling mast as the Silt Skimmer plowed into solid ground. But there were trees, and nowhere on Athas were there trees without a ruler. But what sort of ruler would i find?

Ok, as far as reseearch goes, cool, as far as putting it all in one place? freaking cool this gives me a good idea, are you looking for peoples ideas of how they would populate and define this area? How they might expand this section of Athas? If so, I'd like to daydream a few thoughts on the subject

Reading the thread's title, the first thing I thought of was Gary Larson's "The Far Side."

The Far Side meets Athas? Whoa... my head spins... ;)

Totally, imagine two figures standing in front of the Dragon.. a fighter :fight!: and a rogue .. and the dragon looking like he was about to stomp them.. and the rogue points to the fighter, kind of like saying.. "get him, not me " lol

Its just a teaser at the moment - to get people interested.
But i'm going to need someone/people to proofread my prestige classes / items / spells for me. (looks sideways at pennarin if he isnt too busy)
And the name isnt going to be 'Far Side'. Thats a temporary name - like how armoured vehicles were called tanks.(hmm bad example)
And Fabrício Madruga Lopes id be pleased to let you take a look.

Long Delay. Me bad. Apologies.

Faceless

When the Beasts destroyed K'na'Ktothay they created an implacable enemy that will, until the crimson orb burns out, spend all their time waging battle upon the Beasts. As the predators have their preferred prey so shall we. They hide their faces behind masks. We will make masks of our faces.
Terrok SlashClaw - Changer of the Flesh

Requires Wild Shape Ability and 3rd level Divine Spell casting.
Requires Lore(mahokyl) 2 survival 2.

B F R W Abilities
0 2 0 2 Faceless, Master the Boota
1 3 0 3 Return to Nothing, +1 spellcasting level
2 3 1 3 Mind Ward,+1 spellcasting level
3 4 1 4 Mask Sense, +1 spellcasting level
3 4 1 4 Shatter Mask, +1 spellcasting level

Faceless: A Faceless can never again smile, laugh or show anger. Their face becomes frozen as it was in the moment they take the prestige class. Their body may become old and wrinkled, but their face will stay the same, even unto death. The faceless gains a +2 to bluff and disguise skill checks. The faceless suffers a -2 penalty to diplomacy checks.

Master the Boota: The faceless gains proficiency with the Boota if they do not have it already, and also gains weapon finesse with the Boota.
(Boota:1d6 / 1d8 *2 weight 9lb slashing double weapon)

Spellcasting: at each level (except the first) the Faceless gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a divine spellcasting class to which he belonged before adding the prestige class.

Return to Nothing: The head of the faceless has become frozen in time. It will be restored to its original condition no matter the damage (if dead the face will still revert back to its normal condition). The Faceless gains +1 hp/ class level (retroactive for all class levels) to reflect the constant regeneration of their face.

Mind Ward: The Faceless gains a +4 will save against mind-affecting attacks.

Mask Sense: As a free action the Faceless can detect Mahokyl as if they were using the Detect Animals or Plants spell. The spell can only detect Mahokyl and detects as if 1 more round has been spent searching than actually has (so for example after 1 round searching a Faceless detects all Mahokyl in that range and that direction and the condition of the healthiest one).

Shatter Masks: +2 morale bonus to damage when using a physical attack, or a magical touch attack against a wearer of a Mahokyl Mask.

Ok, aside from issues of wording, "proper" phrasing and other such stuff, here's my review.

The faceless gains a +2 to bluff and disguise skill checks. The faceless suffers a -2 penalty to diplomacy checks.

Make it +4 to Bluff and -2 to the other two.

Master the Boota

Boota Proficiency should be a prerequisite, unless its an Exotic Proficiency.
If it isn't Exotic, have this ability give Weapon Finesse. If Exotic, make this transform the weapon from Exotic to Martial.

It will be restored to its original condition no matter the damage (if dead the face will still revert back to its normal condition).

You mean "It will never be..." ?

The Faceless gains +1 hp/ class level (retroactive for all class levels)

That would be "/character level" and drop the entire parenthesis.

The Faceless gains a +4 will save against mind-affecting attacks.

Since I don't have my books with me, if mind-affecting doesn't cover fear and compulsion effects, make it so.

Shatter Masks

What I propose might be too powerful, but normally the rules don't allow a character to sunder worn equipment: an exception could be made here with masks worn by Mahokyls, replacing the bonus.
Or, make it a dispel magic touch attack, once per day.

Lore(mahokyl)

Never heard of Lore. Ifs its not a campaign-specific skill, you should think of changing it for Knowledge (local).

Mask Sense

You need to give a caster level to that ability.
I suggest switching the Detect Animals or Plants spell for locate creature, or a commune with nature spell that only reveals the location of Mahokyls.
Try and avoid spells that have increased accuracy over time, instead choose instantaneous durations.

Can you send me a finished Boota entry, with complete stats, description, and a small sketch, to my email? I'd like to use it for the equipment guide.

Thanks for the review Penn.

I made the skill requirements higher, gave weapon finesse as a bonus feat at first level, changed the skill bonuses like you advised, changed some of the wording, changed the spell to locate creature at 4th level and the 5th level ability to dispel magic 1/day as a touch attack.
I was also considering adding a special requirement that a ritual had to be performed before gaining a level in this PrC, to prepare them for the Faceless ability. Should casting this be added as a second 5th level ability? It could be a permanent spell that could give some minor benefit (such as a bonus to save vs compulsion effects), but be required for the PrC. Would a permanent spell be too powerful for a low-level PrC?
