I have been looking thru the campaign book regarding the wizards and it says that once a wizard survives the test and becomes a 1st level robed wizard.... he doesn't gain anymore feats. How come ? Also... if by going by the books, a 10th level Wizard of High Sorcery is equal to a 15th level wizard who can only access the 7th level spell list. How is he/she able to reach 8th and 9th level spells if he/she has the intelligence score for those ?

He doesn't gain the bonus feats that he would by continuing to take levels of regular Wizard (the bonus feats at 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels of plain Wizard). He still gets his feats at 6th, 9th, 12th, etc. levels, just like everyone else.

Also... if by going by the books, a 10th level Wizard of High Sorcery is equal to a 15th level wizard who can only access the 7th level spell list. How is he/she able to reach 8th and 9th level spells if he/she has the intelligence score for those ?

By going back and taking more levels of plain ol' Wizard, or by taking levels of another prestige class like Loremaster, or Winternorn, etc.

So upon passing the test and becoming a 1st level robed wizard, he would gain a feat then ?

Don't forget that the Test is a roleplayed event that happens in the game, and you can't actually take levels in the wizard of High Sorcery prestige class until you meet all the requirements and have enough XP to go up a level. You can actually remain a standard wizard even after the Test, there is no requirement that you take WoHS levels, but most take their 5th level as WoHS. You don't have to advance all the way through WoHS, either. You can stop at one level, then go back to advancing as a wizard, or any other compatible class (as Clark points out), and pick up again as a WoHS later if you like.

Cheers,
Cam

Well, it depends. It's no different than any other sort of multiclassing. Wizard of High Sorcery is just another class.

Also remember that you're not forced to take a level of Wizard of High Sorcery immediately after passing the test. You can take a level of regular Player's Handbook Wizard, if you like. Or whatever else your GM allows.

Here's a review of multiclassing: All characters, no matter what class, get feats at 1st, 3rd, 6th, 9th, etc. Every third level, in other words. The Wizard class (from the Player's Handbook) gives you bonus feats at 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels.

Suppose you're a 4th level wizard when you take your test. You take it, and pass. Then a game session or two later you gain enough XP to advance a level. You have several choices: One is to take Level 1 of Wizard of High Sorcery, another is to take Level 5 of player's handbook Wizard. If you choose PHB Wizard, you get a bonus feat, because the Wizard class gives you a free feat at level 5. If you instead choose Wizard of High Sorcery, you don't get that free feat (and instead you get whatever Wizard of High Sorcery gives you at first level). Now you're a Wizard 4/Wizard of High Sorcery 1.

Now, suppose you adventure for a while longer, and you earn enough XP to gain another level. If you choose to take a level of Player's Handbook Wizard, you'd become a Wizard 5/Wizard of High Sorcery 1. Fifth level of Wizard gives you the bonus feat, so go ahead and take it. (You're also now, in total , a sixth level character, so you get another feat by virtue of that.) If you instead took a level of Wizard of High Sorcery, you'd become Wizard 4/Wizard of High Sorcery 2. You would NOT get the free feat for the fifth level of Player's Handbook Wizard (because you're still only a 4th level Wizard). You would, however, still get the feat that goes along with being 6th level overall.

Thanks. I am trying to get My info straight as I will be starting a DragonLance campaign in a couple of weeks and my wife is wanting to play a wizard and become a member of the black robes.

Another question..... I read in the timeline that Kitiara was killed during her assault on Palanthas and Lord Soth carried her body away. Has it ever been revealed what became of her body ?

Absolutely no idea. Sorry. ;)

Although the easy answer is: What became of it is whatever gives you the most interesting game.

That works. I've been kicking around this idea about having Kitiara ressurected by the half-elven daughter noone knew existed. Problem here is this..... In the WotL book, Kitiara is a Dragon Highlord and with Takhisis being dead now I am having difficulty in figuring out what would happen were Kitiara to come back to life. Meaning.... where would those levels go since there are no Dragon Highlords anymore. Ideas ?

What if she still had them? There are still evil dragons, still helpless cities just asking to be invaded by the first resurrected highlord who happens to stumble across them...

Now there's an idea !! Would be pretty bad if Kitiara's first stop was to the Knights of Neraka's HQ and took over. Hmm......

First, my thanks to Dragonhelm and Cam for their insights.

I like the idea of a generalist WoHS. I know the wizard wouldn't get the +1 to caster level for specializing and the +1 bonus to saves versus magic from a chosen school. Are there any other drawbacks to a wizard who becomes a 1st level WoHS upon surviving the test ?

It was my understanding in the War of Souls triliogy Skie wanted Kitiara returned to life, and wished a deal struck with Takhisis to that effect. That's the reason Mina came in and whuped Skie a new one

The point here is, it's not unfeasable she was returned to life, and even reunited with her old companion and mount.
