A buddy of mine wrote this a few years ago when we first brainstormed ideas about the otherside of the Silt Sea and I think I'm going to incorperate it my Sundered Regions Project.

This is the first of several passages.

Comments welcome.

It was her maiden voyage, the Silt Fury, first of her kind. She was one of the largest vessels ever to sail the Sea of Silt. A ship built for trade but more than capable enough to protect itself from the predators of the sea, and weather the Cerulean Storm. Her crew was made up of forty solid men, plus a half dozen mindbenders to keep her afloat and moving fast. The Silt Fury was my second command, reward for seven years of solid service to the Navy of Balic. I joined the navy after I had won my freedom from the arena, and worked my way through the ranks faster than the spoiled nobleman's sons. However, this bears little on the tale I am to tell.

My crew was hand picked from the best surviving soldiers I had served with in the previous years and the most promising of the new recruits in the navy. We were also joined by my two closest companions Noloch, a cleric of earth, and Thuron, a fairly accomplished master of the Way. The Silt Fury was well armed and supplied for the mission we were charged with, the exploration and charting of the Silt Sea, beyond the Cerulean Storm.

We traveled inland for weeks once we hit the Great Eastern Shore, thankful to the elements that we had survived the many horrors of the Silt Sea. One day after the ship was grounded, we salvaged what supplies we could from the wreckage and began the journey. It seemed a miracle that most of the Silt Fury's crew had survived, but the horrors ahead would make most of us wish we had not.

Passage Two:

Two dozen men began the trek east, many of them veterans of a few battles on the Silt Sea. Yet for all of our combined years of battle and plunder, none of us were prepared for the sights of the lands to the east.

A day after we set down on the shore, our ship battered from the last attack of giants, the terrain grew less and less barren, eventually showing signs of growth consisting of grasses and plant life that was so scarce in the Hinterlands. We were even able to forage for roots and found a few trees bearing fruit that none of us had seen before. The men's spirits were lightened, the land here was alive, and for the first time in days there was hope in the air.

Good stuff! I don't suppose you could be convinced to email the whole thing to me, so I can review and incorporate it into my game? Along with any other related documents? Ya see, my players have pretty much done everything one can do in the Tyr region,as well as the Crimson Savannah, the lands of Saragar, and some I created on my own, and need new lands to explore. If they don't get them, they're gonna take on Dregoth to get at the Planar Mirror. They're not originally from Athas, and the campaign is multiplanar, but I don't want them to leave the land of the Dark Sun just yet, and these lands you have described seem like the perfect bait to keep them on Athas for a while (That, and the map!) :D

Thanks. All the credit goes to my friend for these journal entries. I have two or three more entries to post here and then I"ll post them again on my Project website located below my signature.

You may want to check out whats there now. There's a PrC, new PC race, and the outline of the Sundered Regions located there as well which might help you in the mean time. If you have any questions after looking at the material there you can either send me a message there or here on the boards.

It took me a second to figure out how to use that board, but excellent stuff all around. You've made my Athas a little bigger! But still I WANT MORE!!!!! :D

I'll be slowly but surely adding more stuff for the Sundered Regions. I hope to have it all completed by 11/2005. Thats wishful thinking though.

Passage Three:

The land around the rim is unlike so much of the terrain in the lands of the sorcerer kings. The Great Eastern Shore gives way to miles of grasslands, dotted with fruit bearing trees unlike any of those seen in the west. Small animals roam freely, supported by the sheer volume of plant life.

The further inland we traveled, the thicker the vegetation grew. It was like walking through a sea of green, with the wind carrying its song through the air. We traveled for a full week before we saw it. Our vision obscured by the grasslands, which grew as tall as a half giant in some places. It appeared to be a dark gray orb, perhaps miles wide, bisected in the middle by the land beneath it. We did not know what to think of the half ob, set in the middle of the lush lands, like a shadow in paradise. We walked until sunset and somewhat nervously set up camp. I told the men that I would lead a smal group ahead to scout out the shadowy orb in the morning.

Passage Four:

They came at night, and fell upon our camp in great numbers. The beauty of the land had put us at ease, but the sight of the large orb had brought back a little of the caution we were accustomed to.

The guards must have been overtaken quickly and without warning, for no alarm was sounded. Our battle would not last much longer. The creatures were horrific, the flickering firelight revealed our assailants to be vaguely humanoid, but larger than a man. Their heads sprouting tentacles like a silt horror's. Their number were great, overwhelming us not only with force, but with the mastery of the Way even Thuron could not equal.

Five of the creatures set upon Thuron, pummeling him with psionic attacks that would surely have killed any other one of us. It was as if they sensed that he was powerful in the Way, and sought him out. With a piercing scream he fell, blood running from his ears and nose. I leapt to his defense and managed to drive the creatures back long enough for Noloch to heal him, but soon found myself frozen moments after the attack.

Before I lost consciousness, I locked eyes with Thuron for one brief moment, seeing fear where I had never seen any before. It was the last time I would see my friend alive.

Very IMPRESSIVE WORK did you do the maps and sundered regions work as well. If I'm not mistaken, this area is many miles east of the Known regions

Can you send me some very interested in your work

I actually did the map, and the Meta Mage & Darkwyn write ups. The ideas in the outline was sort of a collaboration of myself and Matt.

We/I hope to have most of the Sundered Regions material written up in a formal document by the end of the year.

now that is talent, to which I lack, I'm better at designing areas and filling them no drawing talent at all. was hoping to get something to finish my work west of the Kreen lands. I'm still working on my table top model of Tyr, painstaking work. carboard, sand and Paper Mache'
