So where exactly was the great quake centered? Ideas? Citations? Was the "quake" just the collapsing of the cliff, or was the collapse because of the quake? Was the quake centered at the collapse, or in the kreen empire?

Here's an idea: the quake was a result of the ongoing elemental war. Maybe earth lost a key battle to another para- or element, and the results were manifest on athas in the form of a huge earth formation crumbling. or the crumbling earth is somehow a plan of the element's to somehow increase its power by facillitating the kreen invasion?

There's been speculation that it was caused by the Messenger crashing into Athas as well.

How's about this.. it was the result of the halflings messenger returning (we should really ask that big brain life shaped object of the halflings, it would know) and not only was it their ship landing.. it was also a signal from the spirits of the land to begin the restoration of Athas (big old war) with Borys dead, things are going to start happening.. major things.. and those halflings and the spirits are gonna whoop some a.. and those kreen are gonna be involved too.. but in a most unexpected fassion... (insert plot device here ) lol anyone wanna see a multi dimensional war?? (let it spread far enough, and Rajaat may get to dabble hehe, but that's just me.. I love that dude )

that's what i used to think, but considering the original timeline has the messenger returning the same year as dregoth ascending, I figured there must have been another reason.

Maybe the Rhulisti on the Messenger see what Dregoth tries to do, and decide they have no choice but to return now to prevent people like him from putting the final nail in Athas' coffin.

my point in mentioing that was that the messenger returns following the event of the great quake. so the messenger as an explanation of the quake is right out.

I had an experiment go awry at Rajaat's hidden citadel (Rajaani) 1001 miles west of Dasaraches. I made up this place with rajaats hidden wealth and magic as well as life shaped and elemental magis items and also other race creations and the like. the Messenger was "pulled from the sky" and is currently floating above the Citystate of rajaat. The messenger is actually a floating city Rajaat sent into orbit in the event his :faithful followers" were no longer faithful. Many POWERFUL beings and items on board. finishing campaign, maps et al on this soon I hope. NFL Draft this weekend, and this whole Iraqi freedom thing too. Still Air Force

I just bought a third set of Dark sun books, one for keeps, one for playing and one for notes. hahahahaha anyway, I just cant seem to get into the 3.5 version, I miss the "old ways of the force" I mean gaming

GOOD to talk with you as well. got some gr8 picks of Iraq, that look like what I think Athas would look like. of course the 143 degree temps made it seem so

Yeah, I'm a BIG 3.5 fan. the mechanics are so much smoother, and I'm more of a mechanics than roleplay DM, so it's important to me for everything to go smoothly.2E was excellent in its day, but I could never go back to it. It's a little confusing when you first make the switch, it took me like 4 hours to purge my mind of all the hardwired 2E mechanics so I could comprehend 3E, then 3.5, but it was definetly worth it. It's a lot more balanced. You may change your mind when you see the new Dragon rules too, bro! They are a perfect conversion. If you have MSN IM, shoot me an invite and I can give you a few tips on the 3.5 system!

Thanks I'll do that. I really need to finish my area far west of the Tablelands soon, trying work has been demanding more of me, not to mention a 14 year old son who loves Darksun and a 2 1/2 year old daughter that loves being in the sun. Time man I want more................................
