Just some basic information on the Kagonesti.

Kagonesti are about the same size as the Qualinesti and Silvanesti, but they are much more muscular. Their skin is dark brown, and they draw designs on their faces and exposed skin with clay and paints. Their hair is dark, ranging from black to light brown, and occasionally silvery white. Their eyes are hazel. They wear fringed leather clothes decorated with feathers: they proudly display beautiful necklaces and bracelets made of silver and turquoise.
Kagonesti believe that harmony with nature is the key to a full and happy life. They are fiercely proud of their heritage. Compared to the stoic Silvanesti, Kagonesti are hot-tempered and passionate.
Kagonesti rejected the civilized trappings of their cousins, the Qualinesti and Silvanesti, to establish their own wilderness settlements. Kagonesti have no permanent settlements. Their villages are temporary structures of animal hide and light wood. They use the boughs of living trees for construction and camouflage. Each village is home to a tribe of several interrelated families. The tribe centers around the chief—the oldest and wisest member—and his family. The chief makes all decisions for the tribe.
Kagonesti have an animistic view of the cosmos: they believe that everything is alive and deserves respect. This respect extends especially to the dead, who are tressed in finery and set afloat upon funeral canoes.
Kagonesti work to achieve harmony with nature for a full and happy life. They are a fiercely proud folk, hot-tempered and passionate. While these barbarians do not initiate wars or attack strangers, they are by no means pacifists.
In spite of the wild elves peaceful acceptance of most other races, their animosity toward the Silvanesti and Qualinesti runs deep. During the War of the Lance, the displaced Silvanesti invaded the Kagonesti homelands, eventually subjugating them as slaves. The coming of the Qualinesti initiated further destruction of the Kagonestis lands Kagonesti have cordial relationships with many human villages. They keep deer and dogs for pets, and eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, and wild game.

Not sure if you wanted stats too.

: +2 Dexterity, –2 Intelligence. Kagonesti characters are more robust than "civilized" elves, but are less educated.
: Proficient with either warclub or warhammer; proficient with all bows (except crossbows) and slings. Kagonesti are not automatically familiar with the rapier or longsword, however.
: Automatic Languages: Kagonesti Elven, Common. Bonus Languages: Dragonspeak, Goblin, Ogre, Qualinesti Elven, Silvanesti Elven, Sylvan.
: Favored Class: Barbarian.
: Otherwise, Kagonesti have the game statistics listed in the Player’s Handbook.

Thanks, that helps a bit, but I thought the Kagonesti faverote class was ranger.

I guess I'm looking more for their society, psychology and their general outlook.

Try reading the elven nations trilogy or the book "The Kagonesti". I haven't read them, but I would assume there would be good info about their culture and everything in there. Besides the little bit that is in Chronicles. Or wait till next year when we should have a Races of Ansalon gaming book out...i hope.

I would imagine ranger would be just as good as barbarian to me as a favored class too. There might be some more stuff on them in the 1st and 2nd edition books too. DragonLance Nexus might have some too. http://www.dl3e.com/

The Elven Nations trilogy of books has excellent info on the Kagonesti. One of the main characters is in love with one and she changes his life.

I haven't read The Kagonesti novel but if it's well written it's probably an excellent source as well. There's also the 2E adventure Tree Lords that focuses on the Kagonesti and has a few really good pages of background info in the appendix.

You should pick up the Dragonlance Campaign Setting, too.

Yah, I got that already, but I feel like it's just not enough... I don't know I guess I’m just picky. I've had to look to Races of the Wild and Races of Faerun for inspiration and information and have found them quite useful.

Here's an interesting question...why in the world did the Kagonesti suddenly get smarter but weaker? If I recall they used to have bonuses to strength as well...but a -3 to Int...if I recall correctly. What happened? They suddenly had a racial change?

Just something a little odd, as in previous editions they always had a strength bonus, representing I suppose their barbarity and nature of using strength, whilst being more primitive in certain areas.

That's something I noticed as well, especially in the DLCS Kagonesti section under ability modifiers it says they are stronger than other elves, or something like that.

Not having the -2 CON modifier is a great physical advantage over the other elven races, so in a way of speaking they're "stronger".

Old 1e/2e rules were not really too balanced as 3e rules. If we literally translate those rules they would be: +2 Str, +4 Dex, +2 Con, -6 Int. This would make them real savages and far too strong and quick for silvanesti to enslave them. Don't u think?
