Hello folks,

I don't play D&D yet I cannot get enough of the background, and read as many books as I can possibly can. Thought they are fairly few in number, the DS books are among my favourites, dark and gritty.

One thing that fascinates me is the Avangion. I understand that it is the preservers equivalent of the dragon metamorphosis and heralds the beginning of the return to a green Athas, but after a solid hour and a half of Googling I can find only a piddling amount of knowledge concerning them.

If anyone could please explain their abilities, physical appearence and any other info in detail and please provide as many links and pics as possible I would be eternally (well, for a max of about 55 years) grateful.

Please feed my brain! :D

Dragon Kings should be purchasable on RPGNow for some paltry sum of money; that has all the rules. So does Defilers and Preservers.

The Epic Bureau are working on the Advanced Being rules as we speak, if I recall correctly, so the 3rd Ed. rules should be on their way.

They're angels for Dark Sun.

THEY ARE NOT ANGELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headexplo

sorry......

calling them "angels" just adds a really hokey feel to them. They're intangible entities of great power, kind of buglike in the face (or maybe more alien-like) , ethereal, wispy and diaphanous, but at the core, all they are is a powerful mind and spirit freed from the burden of flesh, and they are virtual wellsprings of power. When I think "angels" I think effeminate feather-winged humanoid types.

Bug-like face? Don't see it. But you have described something pretty "angelic"

The head in the later stages in some drawings looks kind of like a Kreen face without the mandibles.

never made that connection, but it could be that this might help explain the kreen "Great One" listed throughout DS lore (ie. it simply "looks" like a kreen, only "greater")

Actually, the description you are looing for is large, glowing gossamer-winged butterfly.

I have to disagree. The pictures I've seen (Dragon Kings, PaDoA) don't look anything like a butterfly. The wings are more like shrouds of cloth blowing in the wind, they don't in any way resemble a butterfly. Actually, in Dragon Kings, the final stage Avangion has a body resembling nothing more than a mandible-free Kreen head atop tho translucent wings shose structure is almost exactly the same as a 3.%E Gold Dragon.

Speaking of which. How is it going within Epic Burea? We saw a preview of the Dragon PrC and Epic Spells, when will we see one for the Avangion as well as the Elementals?
*looking hopefully to the Templars of said Burea*

Your Dragon preview was highly anticipated and much discussed, so what about giving us another one?

You'll have to wait a bit longer for the avangion.

Patience is a virtue. The Dragon's not quite done, as the community has pointedly explained - there's some issues to be resolved, and the Dragon needs to be completed to bring out the entirety of Dregoth Ascending. After that, then we'll be able to tackle other Advanced Beings - and if I was to hazard a guess, we'd probably tackle the Avangion next.

Like I've posted to other threads where people had this same basic request - understand that the Epic BNureau (well, all of Athas.org) is being handled by people who are not getting paid for this. We are dedicating our free time to help with the development of Dark Sun - and people have varying levels of free time. There's those who are doing finals for school, people with horrid work schedules, those who spend time with families, etc. And we are also determined to stick to the requirements that WotC has on any official product released by Athas.org (or any other fansite for that matter). All these elements result in it taking a lot of time. So, patience is, and always will be, a virtue. And if you think you've been patient enough, then you really haven't.

Despite running denile about the issue. The Dragons are demonic and the Avagions are angelic. You can only denigh it if you take a very narrow view of what is demonic/angelic. Just because they aren't angels or demons doesn't mean that there is no resemblance. I think the resemblance is pretty strong both in appearance and in character. Dragons destroying the world ruling with fear and oppresion and Avangions being saviours of light and renewal. /

I don't see Terminus' kreen head at all in the pic of the avangion.
It doesn't really looks like anything that already exists. Its a pretty unique design.

Only your free time? That's it?!?

There's those who are doing finals for school...

Meh. Education is SOOOO overrated...

:rolleye2:

people with horrid work schedules...

That's an easy one. Just quit your job. You can find plenty to eat in trash cans and dumpsters. And if that fails, you can always move back in with Mom and Dad...

those who spend time with families, etc...

Eh, don't worry about that. It's nothing that a few thousand dollars worth of therapy won't take care of. I'm sure the wife and kids will understand. Just give 'em a credit card and send them to the mall and everything will be just fine.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Anyway, back on topic. The Dragon preview looks really good so far, so I'm sure the Avangion will be just as good.

The few sketches I've seen of the Avangion came from an official TSR source years ago (I can't remember which one), but they appeared to be (more or less) humanoid with gossamer membranes between the arms and legs for wings. Their heads looked more like the Fraal from d20 Future to me than anything else.

It'd be nice if someone with a little bit of artistic talent out there could sketch a few out for us. Maybe do a few different interpretations and let us vote on them.

Patience is a virtue.

Sure it is. But cheering you along shouldn't be too evil. Or is it? I kind of got the feeling when reading your reply Darkhelm.

Seemed less like cheering us on, and more like demanding immediate results.

Eh ok sorry. I wouldn't have thought that looking hopefully and cheering with a smiley might be interpreted as a demand for immediate results. Guess I was wrong.

As an impartial observer, it didn't look demanding even in the slightest way, shape or forum... trust me.

Anyway cheery guys, i'll wait for more info to be released, just thought someone might have had some more info on it for me.

Thanks for the replies.
