I have a question to all you dragonlance fans, raistlin majere-( great to dragonlance) but I'm curious, since to get to the abyss, why did raistlin have to go threw the portal to get to the abyss, I mean could have he cast a plane shift
spell and some plane traveling spell just together. in Dragons of Summer Flame, the wizards cast a spell to get palin and tas and usha to the abyss.

please post why he went threw that portal to the abyss
thanks!

Apparently not. The only way he knew about that led into the Abyss was the portal. Besides which Raistlin might have been powerful but he was never really shown to be a master of planeswalking and might not even have known any of the required spells. And the rule about using the portal to enter the Abyss could have been enforced by the gods of magic or Takhisis who could have been blocking any spells that might achieve it.

At that point Chaos was in the Abyss and many of the rules governing how the Abyss worked had probably been broken. And Takhisis was setting up her plan to [do what she was revealed to have done in the War of Souls] so she was too busy to have bothered to do anything about it. And as they were going to the Abyss to fight Chaos they were pretty much backed by every other god anyway.

Raisltin might have been able to cast plane shift, but it would not have served his purposes. He needed the Dark Queen to follow him into Krynn because he could not have defeated her on her home plane. The only way to do that was to lead her through the portal. Remember, Takhisis was banned from entering Krynn on her own ever since Huma nearly destroyed her.

Yeah sux that Raistlin finally lost his magical powers but he was still clever when he did some illusions with the white powder and stuff. Palin in turn was "the chosen one".

I still think that the magical orders in DL is similar to the Jedi/Sith/Dark Jedi

Yeah no, they're really not.
