I got a few of those myself! (including a clerics challenge). Matter of fact, I used one of the Theif ones as the FIRST adventure in my new Ravenloft campaign. It was the one about the River Bandit, and he turned out to be the homeless bum in disguise. I used this generic D&D module as a base starting point for my 3E Ravenloft campaign, cuz I wanted to illustrate a point to my players. I wanted to show them Ravenloft wasn't ALL gloom, doom and despair. I started them off as 1st level commoners, and we engaged in a standard D&D adventure with copious amounts of Ravenloft flavor. I just didn't feel the need to inundate the players with supernatural stuff right out the gate. Let them deal with their fellow humans, and show them the gritty underbelly of Ravenloft city life (or village life, as the situation may warrant) without resorting to wolf attacks, vampire stalkings or ghostly hauntings. Just straight up man vs. man mortality challenge. I guess my point is, those old Challenge adventures can still be relevant in today's gaming environment. Then again, I think ALL adventures could be relevent if they're tweaked properly. Even Red Plume Mountain! peace, MSD -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Fraust Date : 09-21-03 03:36 PM *l* strangely enough im looking for them to get short, one night stand type, adventure ideas to use as side quests in a ravenloft campaign im designing... thats actualy some of the best ravenloft adventures....the ones where your not out fighting the supernatural...but the threat of it is still there...even if you plan out a simple adventure that involves something as plain as a few goblins as the bad guys, just knowing that their going to be in ravenloft will normaly make the characters a bit tense and suspicious... i personaly want to run something similar to the x files...where the characters start off each adventure thinking their going to fight some terrible supernatural bad guy, but in the end find out that things werent as spooky as they thought, the supposed lich with his army of undead was just a tallented illusionist, the vampire terrorizing their home city winds up being just a normal human serial killer with a blood fetish, stuff like that...with an occassional unexplainable mystery to keep them wondering... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : The MadStepDad Date : 09-23-03 10:08 AM Originally posted by Fraust *l* strangely enough im looking for them to get short, one night stand type, adventure ideas to use as side quests in a ravenloft campaign im designing... thats actualy some of the best ravenloft adventures....the ones where your not out fighting the supernatural...but the threat of it is still there...even if you plan out a simple adventure that involves something as plain as a few goblins as the bad guys, just knowing that their going to be in ravenloft will normaly make the characters a bit tense and suspicious... Word. Is. Bond. I'm in the midst of a long-term RL campaign that has spanned over one year Real Time (two years Game Time). In the time I have taken the PCs from 0 level to 9th level, they have discovered a grand total of TWO magical items (but "itzOOKAAY" like John Cena, cuz we don't need magic to make the game cool). I've been posting every single adventure for a while, and I'm currently working on Episode 8. If you're interested in seeing how the PCs react to the THIRD magical item they've ever encountered, here's the link. http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=293 Pop on in and tell me what you think. peace, MSD -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:17 AM.
